    Hey y'all.

I have a Shoei X-Twelve helmet on which the bead around the visor has split along the area that presses against the visor. This will allow it to leak. I have had a bit of a bitch of a time ordering a new bead from Canada. It has been on back order here for about 5 months now and no sign that the Canadian supplier was going to get stock in the near future.

So I decided to order from Shoei direct. Another problem arose with that. To make a very long story short, Shoei's odering system would not allow my order because my credit card has my address showing "BC" instead of "British Columbia" When filling out their form, I could not type in BC as they use drop down boxes. Yadda Yadda Yadda.

So. RobVG was kind enough to help me out. He ordered the part to be delivered to his place in Washington and I rode down there to pick it up. Hugely expensive. The part was about $10.00 give or take. But got to ride down for a scoot about and a beer with Rob so all was good that way.

Now the problem. I went to remove the damaged bead from the helmet to put the new one in but it seems like it may be applied with some sort of adhesive. I did not want to end up with this partially worn bead being ripped off and unable to properly install a new bead.

Shoei tells me this would have been covered by warranty as this helmet had a 7 year warranty on it and even though I don't have the bill of sale, the helmet has not been on the market for that long and that they would cover it. The problem with that is, Helmet House (California I think) does their warranty. I would have to send it down to them and they would likely have it for weeks. Also the shipping cost at least one way, would have to have been paid by me. I don't have a spare helmet and did not want to be without.

Has anyone here replaced a visor bead on their helmet, especially a Shoei? Does anyone know if this bead is in fact attached with an adhesive or just with pressure.

Wow.. what a hic up. What size head. I know it's sorta personal, but borrow one. I'd definitely take Shoei in on the warranty part, maybe buy another helmet, spare? passenger etc.. OOTV I believe has what, 9 helmets maybe he would lend you one, IDK. just processing some thoughts.

9 Helmets?! How did you come up with that number? I have 5 and one of those is in retirement, it was dropped, had a little damage and now has racer autographs all over it. The three I have now that are in circulation are, Shuberth C3Pro (commuter), GT-Air (Sport/Canyon riding) and my latest Schubert SR1 (Track day's).

The one remaining (spare) is my old Schuberth C3 (Hi-viz Yellow, size large). I sold the HJC to my neighbor who desperately needed a new helmet, so if I still had that one, the most would have been 6. If you look at that number upside down, I can see you could confuse it as 9.

I'd be glad to send my spare Schuberth C3 to you Randy if you think it will fit.

For medical reasons at I would not be wanting to wearing someone else's helmet right now. Also, there is the cost of the shipping of helmets back and forth. I can't imagine that would be too cheap. But thanks.

I would need a lathe which I don't have for that. It would be much easier to carve myself a new head.....again.

Well, sometimes being truthful on this site amounts to the same as being not truthful, in the eyes of some. In this case, I am being completely honest with you knowing that since you were law enforcement, you could tell a lie right away!

Reminds me of something I did many years ago when dealing with a 10 year old child who had done something illegal at home. His mother had brought him into the office when she caught him and asked for some assistance in dealing with this issue. He could not have been charged here in Canada at his age nor were we about to regardless as it was relatively a minor in family issue and the kid was supposedly a pretty good kid according to mom. All mom and I wanted was to have him fess up to what he did.

We had new Roadside Screening Devices for alcohol that had a testing procedure we went through before and after administering these roadside tests. This pre and post testing caused lights of different colours to come on this hand held device. I told the kid that it was a lie detector and proceeded to ask him a couple questions in presence of mom including if he had done the whatever it was he was supposed to have done while holding his finger on the hole where the mouthpiece is attached when being used for alcohol testing. I manipulated the red light to come on and told him he was not being truthful. When he finally told the truth, I manipulated the device so that the green light came on. Mom was in the back ground about ready to piss herself. I had a bitch of a time keeping a straight face. The rest was up to mom.
