So my son of 21 years came by today and asked if I would let him ride the Interceptor. He rode my old NightHawk for about a year after I gave it to him, but it's been about a year since he sold it. So I agreed to let him take it for a spin. He was gone for about a half hour (I'm not sure which one I was worried about the most...) and when he came back, he was smiling from ear to ear and singing the praises of the old man's VFR. Says he wants to get not just another bike, but a VFR. His girlfriend was not nearly as enthusiastic about that idea as he was. In any case, I was just glad to get both of my babies back without any scratches.

Nice! I wish my Dad owned an Anniversary Interceptor! He stopped riding motorcycles when he broke his collarbone when I was a little kid lol

I know you won't do this, but I'd tell Sonny to get another girlfriend. That's only going to get worse.

Coming from an old nighthawk, Sonny would have come back grinning had he ridden any number of newish motorcycles.

There are a lot of women, and a lot of motorcycles in the world. I wouldn't take the first one to come along.

So true on all counts, Sniper. In defense of the old 91 Nighthawk though, I still believe it to be a GREAT motorcycle for everyday use. Competent in all categories, but excellent in none...LOL
One of my riding buddies was once considering the purchase of a CBR1000RR despite the fact that he already had 3 other bikes. His girlfriend told him he didn't need a new motorcycle. I told him he didn't need an old girlfriend. So he got the new bike AND a new girlfriend.

My wife just wants me to be happy, guess I'm lucky. She did grow up around dirt bikes and drag racing, though.

I apologize for the Nighthawk slam. That wasn't cool.

No worries Bud. I didn't take it as a slam, just a bit of good humor. :smile-new:

Dam, if I had a kid that rode, I'd probably buy him another bike, unless it would harm him, or he didn't deserve it. Life is too short, too many things could happen to make today's ride my last. There's something special about being able to share with a guys Dad. My Dad & I fought too much and he was too cheap to ever have a bike. I remember those two guys, who posted on here, this summer, that rode together. Sounded pretty awesome.

Wish my dad would ride, but I think he's too old and too much of a car guy to ever buy a bike, despite hinting at wanting to tour in the past. I had him sit on my interceptor and start it and he was like "eh I dont wanna" :(

    Nice anniversary edition Deckrat.

Thanks Hellapet. I told him as he was was getting into his teens that I would teach him to ride and give him the Nighthawk. I also told him that it would be shameful to reach manhood without ever learning to ride a motorcycle. Something that I believe ALL men should be able to do.

And ALL women should be able to do...but I'm biased. :) What if a gal needs to take over a moto for whatever reason?
I hope his current gal changes course or he finds one that will encourage or share his passion for it. I could not imagine being with anyone who didn't like the idea of me being on a moto.

I agree Anne.Marie. I have asked my daughter if she wants to take the MSF course, but sadly she says she has no interest in learning to ride.

Growing up, my Dad always had Goldwings and I always had dirtbikes. I did ride on some backroads with him a few times and even got him to try going off road once. (LOL, that lasted about 2 minutes). He used to always come blowing past me while my bike was wide open. Pissed me off. Now, I have the VFR and he says he is too old to ride any more and afraid if he ever broke something, he would never heal. He found Goldwing at an auto auction not too long ago that did not sell that day and said he was going to buy it the next week if it was still there. I was hoping he would so we could go riding, at least a last few times or something. Unfortunately, it was gone when he made it back the following week. Ah, but never say never.
