Japanese biker fails to notice missing leg

TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- A Japanese biker failed to notice his leg had been severed below the knee when he hit a safety barrier, and rode on for 2 km (1.2 miles), leaving a friend to pick up the missing limb.

The 54-year-old office worker was out on his motorcycle with a group of friends in the city of Hamamatsu, west of Tokyo, on Monday, when he was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and bumped into the central barrier, the Mainichi Shimbun said.

He felt excruciating pain, but did not notice that his right leg was missing until he stopped at the next junction, the paper quoted local police as saying.

The man and his leg were taken to hospital, but the limb had been crushed in the collision, the paper said.

I guess that was shock or else he was already an amputee and they mean he lost his prosthetic and his friend picked it up. that would make more sense. ONe things for sure, I don't want to ride with him if he doesn't even notice losing a leg. I'd feel like a wuss complaining about getting stung in the chest by a wasp...

I wonder what the international motorcycle hand signal is for "Dude... your leg just got ripped off"

Had to be shock. I mean I posted my tag line as a bit of a smart a$$ comment. There are more than a few stories of people losing limbs and not noticing for a while.

Wasn't a prosthetic, if you read the article again, it mentions that the friend brought it to the hospital, but it couldn't be reattached.

How could he stop without a right foot? I guess the VFR's linked brakes would have a benefit there:tongue:

that has to suck, but at least he lived to, albeit painfully, laugh about it.
