Ok-so the mating stock plug has the same wires. First thing tape it up a bit and seal it up. If you are really nuts you can take 1 inch heat shrink tubing and put it over the connector and do it that way. Stuff it into the front of the bike.

Then wiring wise, you will go direct to the battery. Black to ground or to the battery post.( Hope you are using 10 gauge wire.) And the red direct to the positive post, but also you need a fuse inline on the pos line, something again like the Metro pack 630 fuse box. Use a 30 amp fuse there. 100s of guys have done it this way ( including me) and it works out fine. I have personally fixed a 6th gen this way and the bike is still fine and rolling down the road. I'll toss in couple photos later when I get back to my desktop.

Its best to kinda plan out how you want to route your wires in advance before you start cutting them to length. Do a good job and be neat and wire tie things down. Also there are stick on wire posts that are quite handy sometimes for this sort of thing.

Thanks for the help. Does it matter where I put the fuse? Normally you want it closer to the power source but it would be difficult to check up in the fairing.
    Thanks again.

Yeah - Its easiest to wire it up close to the battery for under the seat access.

So I finally had time to get everything put together. I think it went pretty well. I used a bracket from Mello Dude to mount the R/R. That made it super easy. Once I got it all wired up I'm getting ~14.16v at idle and at 5k. Seems pretty good to me. I made a wire running error. For some reason I ran it on the outside of the frame so next time I take the right fairing off I will redo it. I'm not sure what I was thinking. Other than that I'm pretty happy about it. I haven't installed a voltmeter yet but I will. Take a look at the pics.

One more question. Can I use the oem R/R connector to connect a couple items? It seems like it would be a perfect place to ad a power port and hook up the voltmeter since it goes straight to ground and the battery. That connector looked good so I saved it.

Here's the adapter from Mello Dude as it came in the package.

I taped the carriage bolts in for ease of installation.

Double nuts installed for extra security. It came with all the hardware.

Thanks for all the photos on the R/R flip plate.....Its not purty but it does the job, no hassles...
    - On your install... you could stand a few zip ties on the wire routing... neatness counts, it avoids having a wire cut or ground out later.
    - The fuse box looks reasonable....
    - The ground wire looks a bit wimpy, what gauge is it?
    - Voltage output is perfect.

I actually did zip tie them up. I took the pics before though. Not sure why I didn't take more.

What's wrong with the fuse box?

It actually is 10ga wire unless the store was lying to me.
