    Hi!
I have had a couple of motorbikes, yamaha, bmw, honda etc. I currently have a VFR750 and SRX600, i am looking to purchase another bike, the bikes i have are fairly "sportish" and i would like to buy something more in the line of a cruiser bike (honda magna, yamaha maxim etc). I prefer reliable bikes before 1987. Do you have any tips or personal experience? Thanks alot guys/ girls :lemo: (preferably bikes that are fairly cheap to purchase)

I second the Magna. Had a 1984 V45 Magna that I shared with my dad. It was the first Honda V4 motor I got to know and love. Although it is technically a cruiser, I use to carve up the canyon roads of Malibu with it. I did scrape the pipes and/or center stand a few times, it never disappointed me in the turns.

My Dad had a '87 (?) Yamaha 750 Maxim X, the 5 valve per cylinder bike. It was a hot rod. Check it, maybe you like it....

Anyone have any experience with the earlier magna engines? Thought it was the same as the VF engine, which had cam issues if i remember correctly? What to listen to when inspecting and such.

I can report that the VF750C Magna is still the fastest cruiser Honda has made. My friend has a VTX1800C (that's right, over a liter larger displacement) which is slower. If you don't mind plastic fenders, having four mufflers instead of two, and 10,000 RPM, it's a fun scooter. But if you want to put-put slowly, corner gently, and stick magnetic toys to the fenders, a Magna's too sporty.

Oh, the R/R is as bad as the VFR's...

Magna and VMax were the penultimate muscle cruisers of the day.

    Had an 82 V45 myself.
