    The IQ Test

    Heads Cleaned/Ported (not polished)/Sand Blasted/Painted.

    Now comes the IQ Test, see if it all goes back together;

    And More Parts;

Did the Valve Lapping and new Valve Stem Seals x16.
All went back togather with no parts missing, no parts left over.
Buddy came over and with an assortment of Torque Wrenches, bolt'd it all in.

Not before we checked (always check) and found I installed the Front Cams 180' out.
Wouldn't have hurt anything, but sure wouldn't run well.
Now to get the motor (210lbs) on a pedestal and build the Bike around it.

Good lord, some people can deal with detail a lot better than me. I can do it but it's torture. Part of the personality profile ya know.

    Did you bake the paint?
I used hi-temp engine paint on parts of my 83 last summer, and found it holds up a lot better than normal rattle can paint.

    Auto-Bake

I'm sposed to bake the heads at 200'F for 1hr.
But that's gonna happen when I ride it anyway.
I'll be Sand-Blasting the Aluminum Valve Covers and Clear Coating them too with VHT.
Those should also get hot enough to Cure just by riding.
Probably just City rides, till it Cures, so no bugs get stuck on'em.
Trying to save some time, since I don't move as fast as I used to.
Used to be I could make mistakes twice as fast.

Wasn't as impressed with their clear, did my stator cover, it was OK. I had the valve covers powder coated silver. Try a spare part first.

Most of the parts I used the black VHT on were small non-engine parts, like winker covers, radiator trims, plastic around ignition, brake calipers. Baked them all, plastic ok under 200 degrees.

    Cover Shots

I like the idea of Powder Coating the Valve Covers. Just the Front one, no one sees the Rear Cover.
The Front Cover takes a beating too. Powder Coating is probably tougher than the VHT Engine paint.
I'll have to see if they have the "Silver" I want.
I agree the VHT Clear Coat is not that good. It gave a SemiGloss/Satin finish, rather than Gloss and it was slightly yellow.
I Sandblasted/VHT Clear'd the Aluminum Footpeg Brackets, still turned out nice, but shoulda been better.
Yes, I have lots of Valve Covers so I can experiment.

Continuing to strip the 85 part bike, inventorying parts and putting them on shelves. Started glass bead blasting some parts getting them ready for powder coating, may run out today to pick up a cheap old house oven for baking my parts in. IMG_2640.jpg IMG_2639.jpg IMG_2637.jpg

I just saw powder coating paint at Harbor Freight.

Didn't know it was within the realm of the DIY'er.

Keep the pics commin' Mike :pop2:

There are couple of guys who hang out over on VFRD that do their own powder coating. Not sure of the whole process but I do know that you need an over to bake it on.

Lever gives me the best of both worlds.

Almost the accuracy of a a bolt but the speed of a semi-auto for running shots on varmints.

I used to powdercoat alot of small car parts, alternators, pulleys, valve covers, what ever i could fit into an oven. to do it effectively you have to have a part washer and a blast cabinet. then go out and pick up an old household oven that can hit 400 deg. for an hour and your set. standard finishes and opaque coatings are pretty easy and straight forward for the beginner. when you start getting into candy coats and others it can become frustrating. especially when you have to blast off a coat that didn't end up looking ok.

Did someone say Harbor Freight?

    Moto got spoiled today...

Oil change with genuine Honda parts filter and Rotella T6 as well as a beefed up charging system.

    20160903_173456.jpg

Volt readings usually were around 13.7v...sometimes 14.0something. I've never seen a reading this high before. Pretty pleased! :triumphant:

Rotella! You been talking to Jeff haven't you?!

Numbers look good hopefully the beefed up charging will help keep them gremlins away! Have you put a volt meter on your bike yet? I've been lazy about my 6 Gen but have one on the 5 Gen and so far voltage looks good.

Other than clean my 5 Gen for tomorrow's So Cal meet up, not much to do at the moment. I still have a couple few thousand miles before oil change and maybe a few hundred more before tire change. Other than that waiting for tomorrow to come. Looks like we'll have a pretty decent turn out!

    Haha...he does use amazing lube.

I definitely feel better about the new readings and think those gremlins are gone foe good.

Yes, I have a volt meter that will wait until I get a fuse block. You should treat your 6th gen.

May do pair valve and flapper mods this weekend.
