    Hi,
I'm in the process of restoring my old 1986 VFR750F, yes I'm the original owner.

I still have the stock exhaust which I plan on putting back on. Does anyone know what the original finish/material is? Looks like stainless steel? I was wonder what the best method of fixing scratches?

    Sand and polish or paint?

I cut my cans and welded the stainless and aluminum pices and cut some carbon fiber tubes to make my cans, the pipes are slip on from a 900ss ducati, cut and fit and welded.

Grab a mothers polish ball or buffer and some stainless steel specific polish. It's a little work but worth it

I found this on eBay. It shows what looks like a coating that has peeled off the muffler. Maybe it's a mild steel or alunimum underneath. Maybe I can either paint mine or have them ceramic coated? Other than a slide mark, mine aren't too bad so maybe I'll leave them.

In a inconspicuous place scratch it a little with a pocket knife. If it scratches or gouges easy it's aluminum. If it feels very hard it's SS
