    Hello from bend Oregon.
Just picked up my new to me original owner 91 VFR750 the other day with 39k miles on her.
Basically mint with a text book maintenance book of normal maintenance to go with her.
Was owned by a moto mechanic and now helicopter mechanic .
Perfect as I own a euro / asian auto shop in Bend so mechanics are in my fortay .
Came from a 07 Kawa ex500 with only 10k miles on her but man ...... every square inch of this 91 is superior in all aspects compared to the ex500.
This is my 2nd road bike .
They seem to like to run a wee hot on the right leg , lol

Ya know whats sicker, as some would say, are the roads in his neighborhood. Totally epic. Because there is hardly anyone out there. I feel the need to get back down there.

On top of that road I have cascadee Lakes Hwy a mere 15 minutes from my house .

Actually yes and no in my case. on the 97 which is carbed lke yours. I'm a believer in getting air in and out and as much as possible and as fast as possible. so with the Staintune I added a K-N. only to find out a year later Piper cross airfilter flows a bit better. But on actual power it went up a tad. mid range was a bit linear all this with no jetting. Now on the 5th gen it was even more noticeable But more important here was how fast it picked up the pace. That was worth it right there. Then I also added a PC, to the 5th so yea it moves right along quite nice now. Of coarse the audible gains are awesome ;) then the looks are just IMO the best there is.

So I picked up a pair of fastrac saddle bags from the local pawn shop for $40 today .
Was really excited to not have to wear a back pack on long hauls .
Then the dude I bought the bike from says I just ruined a beautiful bike when he saw it with bags!
    Wow ... really ?!
Its not like there gonna live there .
Just thought I would share that .

Man! what are you doing, you killed the bike!!! jk, Not bad, but maybe a suggestion if you haven't thought of this. I wouldn't put the straps over the rear cover. I'd replace the cover with something else if you need something there to hold the straps. Those rear seat covers are to hard to come by, just my two cents worth. take it or leave it, just saying. ;)

Thats exactly what I was going to do!
Just didn't remove it while I was seeing if they would fit .
Im too nervous about scratching up the pristine finish on that cap!

I have a 91 I bought new. Centerstands and those cowls were aftermarket items at about 100 pesos a pop. OEM cowls a couple of years later were getting scarce. Now 25 years later probably near impossible to find an OEM. The cowls are ABS. The older they get the more brittle the plastic. IOW, they break easily. Cranking down on the straps on your saddlebags may break the cowl. Fixable but IMO much easier to just take it off on trips or pop for a tankbag.

With the cowl off, the saddlebag straps can be run under the main cowling to prevent chafing of the paint. Other gear can be attached using one or more of the 4 or 6 point cargo bungees. Check the inner parts of those bags where they ride against the paint. I use a 'saddle blanket" made from a double thickness of Polarfleece.

The red on the 91-93's is prone to fading. Matching it is a bitch and just flat impossible.

    Thanx .
Bag has soft flaps to keep it from scratching the sides.
Like I said before , that cover was only on there for the pic. I have since removed it with the bags on.
Also , I only will use the bags for long hauls which I do very infrequently.

cheers and thanx for the info

Those soft flaps seem like they work. Loading the bag no matter how frequently or infrequently causes shifting of the entire assembly even if the load weight is equal. Bend, Redmond and Prineville are sandy areas with lots of wind and that sand can get between the paintwork and the soft flaps on your bags. SOS on tankbags either magnetic or otherwise.

If you don't give a shit aboot your paint or plastic then maybe the guy who sold you the bike is right..

Another temporary fix is a couple of strips of gaffers tape on the paintwork where the bags and straps touch the bike. Gaffers tape is different than duct tape being removable withoot leaving adhesive residue.

One more is a 3M product that is an adhesive clear film of 8 mils that is used for protection of headlamps and areas on cars and bikes from that same blowing high # grit sand in and around desert areas. A graphics shop in your area probably will give or sell you some. Or if there is a 3M distributor nearby they sell the stuff by the roll.

The straps on your bags sure look like they attach using Velcro. Looks like ya might could have just made a quick eyeball measurement to see if they would fit withoot crushing or busting a tab off that cowl.
