The funny thing is that he used to ride a 1100 VStar that he sold because he couldn't keep up with us on normal rides. He sold that to get a Yamaha FZ600 saying that we would never be able to keep up with him on that, was easily proved wrong. Sold that to get a liter bike... the Vstrom. He has lost more money changing bikes than I spent on the VFR and he still isn't happy. I think it may be because he doesn't get that it isn't a race.

I'm starting to realize that I don't want to ride with him any more if he continues to ride this way. I know that I'm not the greatest rider but he needs some grounding and skill training. On the ride I saw him almost get sideswiped 3 times because he was riding in someone's blind spot. Even worse he would pass people then slow down leaving me in their blind spot making me have to back off even more. He can't keep a constant speed on the highway, up and down by 30 KMH or so. Hogs the left lane even when there faster cars behind. He always has to be in front. Takes stupid chances passing others in the wrong places. Basically an accident waiting to happen. I think I am going to have to sit him down and have a chat. Though he rides like a dick now, he is still one of my best mates and deserves the chance to improve.
Maybe its not just the fastest bike issue that's really bothering me.....

I'd suggest that is the whole point...

Anyone can drive a bike like a dick - the real trick is staying alive....
Driving like a dick when you are with someone just proves yes you are the biggest cock and you have no respect for the other rider.

I not that keen on riding with other people as I find that I keep asking myself 'why did they brake there, what line are they taking' and yes "why don't they overtake" - lol

You should definitely have that talk with him. If he doesn't shape up, he stands a damn good chance of getting hurt really bad or worse. Whether or not he's still your riding buddy at the time is of no consequence. Best to say something now, if not only to help your peace of mind. Sadly, this is the voice of experience.

Toronto Motorsports Park over in Cayuga is fairly close and they have test and tune nights where you can use the drag strip for a small fee. Invite your friend to go out there for a schooling. I'm pretty sure he will have all sorts of excuses why he can't go
