Just got a used VFR and it she needs a new chain and sprockets. Was wondering if I should do the conversion. From what I've read it does nothing but help with low end acceleration, weight/friction loss etc. but what about real world riding? I ride mostly around town but planning to get more serious once I get used to her and do some light canyon riding and also occassional track days for fun. I also ride 2 up often with my girl. Anyone have experience with it? Is it worth it? Or should I just keep the factory gearing and chain length and leave well enough alone? I have an '03 ABS. Thanks-
I'm not sure you would notice any significant difference between the 530 or 520 other than decreased chain/sprocket life.
I did the 520 conversion on my Hawk GT for no other reason than it was cheaper to buy a complete 520 kit from Sum Of All Parts than to actually buy the OEM spec stuff. It made absolutely ZERO noticeable change to the bike. My Hawk makes 47-49 HP tops so chain/sprocket wear is not an issue. KC-10 FE out... lane:
I did a 520 swap on my old R6 (originally 532) I would say I felt more power from the chain swap than I did from the aftermatket exhaust an jet kit i put it it. (it weas an 02 still had carbs). I sold the bike before I wore out the 520 set up I think I put somewhere around 8k on it and it seemed to be holding up pretty well. Also I gained about 6mph on the top speed
