    Hey gang,

My beautiful baby was recently the victim of a theft attempt, which in and of itself was one of the most heartbreaking things ever to happen to me. Seriously, I hadn't cried like that since Titanic! But I digress, I did get it back in one piece fortunately, with a broken steering lock and some other minor damage.

My question is this: How hard is it to replace the steering lock set? Is this a job I might be able to do myself? I have a limited technical skill base and have experience doing my own wrenching, but just don't know what this job entails.

I've not been able to find any decent tutorials for this on the web either. Any help or advice would really be wonderful.

I recently removed the ignition/steering lock from my 5th gen. The bolts are T40 Torx-drive and seriously loctited in place, and only slightly accessible from underneath. I was able to remove the bars and then flip the triple clamp over and set it back on the steering head/forks so I could work on the bolts. I used my handy-dandy electric rattle gun, and that made short work of the bolts without mangling the head. Prior to that I was pounding on the bolts with a hammer/impact driver and making no headway.

Once you have the ignition set out of the triple clamp, I believe the rest basically clips together but haven't had to do this myself. Here's a bit of info from another site:

Thanks a bunch for the info and links, good sir. Maybe this won't be as much of a pain as I was anticipating...maybe.
