Awesome! Hopefully I won't have to order parts for a while, but I definitely want to order genuine honda filters and HP4 oil from Honda. The guy only used genuine Honda filters and Honda HP4 synthetic oil. I will keep using that for sure.

I got her tagged and insured today. Put 60 miles on her!!
What a great riding motorcycle!!! Soo smooth and clean running. I didn't get to open it up too much, it was like national state trooper day on the interstate or something. They were all out in my area today. I did get on some winding back roads for a bit, she performed great!! I really like this bike!! :congratulatory:
I'm definitely going to have to lower the foot pegs, any suggestions on peg lowering kits, or rearsets?

Contact Larry Lovosone at Busy Little Shop, he made my first set of lowering blocks (uses your pegs)

Yep, rear sets for 5 Gen are pretty non-existent, so lowering pegs would be the best bet. Although there are 6 Gen rear sets and putting them on a 5 Gen is possible, it's pricey and takes some 6 Gen parts and a bit of work.

I bought mine this spring with 4100 miles on it. I was really wanting a yellow. But Red works just as well.

Really happy with mine, but I need to do the rectifier this winter as well as something with the exhaust headers.

I've done a lot of SS brake lines. But this looks like a bear to bleed....

Aren't these great old bikes! There's nothing new that I like any better.

Hey Allyance, when you installed the lowering blocks from Larry, did you have to modify anything? I sent him an email, and he replied with links to posts on other forums of a guy that installed them and had to do some cutting and grinding and drill and tap holes add bolts... all kinds of things I feel like is way too much work for peg blocks. lol I just want to bolt them on and go, I don't want to fabricate anything.

Sniper, these are great bikes!! I agree!! I feel the same way that you do, I don't think anything out on the market today is nearly as nice. I asked the guy I bought the bike from about the SS cables and he said they were a pain to install with the linked brake system. I don't know if they make a big difference or not, but I really like having them on there.

Anne Marie, thanks! And yes, the riding up here is wonderful! I moved up here from Florida 11 years ago. The roads down there are all straight and flat, I moved up here and I had to learn how to actually take corners!! lol Its awesome!!

Oh, I almost forgot, Zoom-Zoom.... You were right about the excessive lean angles! lol When I first got on it and rode it yesterday I really was not used to handling like that!! :biggrin1: lol It took me a few hours of riding to get used to leaning and cornering again!! I'm still not going to be super aggressive or try to drag knees or pegs or anything like that, but it is an entirely different kind of flying coming off of a Road King!!

I've done the clutch/brake lines on both my VFRs and although it is time consuming to do all the lines and bleed them, it is really not much different than bleeding other lines, there are just more bleed points. I will say that the 5 Gen was a lot easier to change the "hard" lines as these are much easier to get to than the 6 Gen. I'll also add that bleeding is so much easier with two people and speeds up the process. Although if you replace the bleeders with speed bleeders, subsequent bleed jobs go a lot quicker. If you have not downloaded the Honda Service manual, I suggest go and grab it as it will be useful for any maintenance and trouble shooting you might have to do. If you were in CA I'd invite you over and we could swap the lines and bleed them in less than a day.

No mods necessary on my 2003, only have to adjust shift linkage and rear brake linkage + brake light switch, kind of a PIA. Larry knows his stuff, great machinist.

Thanks guys! I love them yeller vfrs!!
Seriously though, I'm really loving the 5th gen vfr. When I was in the market for one, I worried that I was building the bike up too much in my head, making it out to be more than it really is. But, I can honestly say that it's everything I was hoping for. I'm really happy with how smooth these bikes run. I'm glad I took my time and found a nice one.

I'm as giddy as you my friend and it's been a Year since purchase. I flew one way to Cleveland and rode mine home to Grapevine, TX. Previous bikes were a '99 CBR600F4 and a brand new 2002 CBR1100XX. The VFR is "just right". I prefer the looks to any bike I've seen (slow Red ones too ), and the gear whine is well; you know :love-struck::love-struck:

That is so awesome! I drove five and a half hours with a trailer. Got to the guys house, bought the bike, got it in the trailer, and my truck was dead! I had to get a ride to the auto parts store and buy a new battery to get home.
Not nearly as awesome as the way you got your bike! Lol
I agree with you about it being just right. It's a great balance of speed, torque, power, comfort, and handling. Plus they are dead sexy too! I just love everything about these bikes!

Cool story. She made you work a little to bring her home

FWIW, mine has Race Tech in the Forks and feels great. I put them in my Blackbird, so I was stoked the VFR had them previously installed. She's a bit soft and an investment in the suspension is money well spent. It's also time to think about your Electrical if you haven't already. A ton of info on here about it. I would also flush the brakes and change the plugs too if not recently serviced. I'm also running relatively new Pirellis. Angel GTs. Love them.

Have fun on The Dragon with her! :guitar:

Yes, I was thinking about maintenence and the regulator/rectifier. I asked the guy I bought the bike from and he said not too worry about the r/r on a 2000. He said the main concern was on the 98 and 99 bikes. I want to do more research on this.
He said this bike was his 27th vfr, and he said out of 27 he only had two burn out the r/r. I'm still going to check it out and price a new r/r anyway because I don't think it will hurt anything to swap it out for a better one. I've read a lot of posts about 5th gen bikes and r/r's. Lol
The brake fluid looks nice and clear, I think I will do a brake flush and a coolant flush this winter before spring hits. I also have not checked the brake pads, I will be checking those out today and replacing them if needed.
The tires are still brand new they are the Perelli Diablo something or others. Lol I can't remember exactly right now. But they ride great!
I'm definitely going to keep this bike up, and stay on top of maintenance. I want to keep her around for a while. :)

I wouldn't listen to him to closely. My '00 had the stator R/R issue at 35k and 48k. I used an eBay mosfet the first time on the R/R and a Rick's the second time. I also added a small shaded pole motor out of an old PC tower to help keep air flowing over the R/R while in traffic, seemed to help.

Ahhhh, good to know! I'm definitely going to be checking into a Rick's mosfet for the R/R for sure now. I don't want to take any chances.
    Where do you order them?
