Well, seeing how I have only owned inline fours (in regards to streetbikes), I am kinda getting hooked onto the "V" configuration bandwagon. I think that inline fours are grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat motors, they are reliable, make loads of power, etc, etc,....however, I have this HUNGER deep down inside me (NO it is not gas) for V-4's and V-twins (non-cruiser). I love the V-4 of the VFR, the sound, the feel, the gearwhine of the engine.....just makes me happy it does. Happier than a pig wallowing in shit. :flock: :flock: Last winter I had a chance to ride my brothers KTM 950 Super Enduro (SE for short), and man, I fell in love with that bike. The sound and feel of that v-twin engine....man, it is inTOXicating! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Is anybody else hooked on the sound and feel of "V" configuration engines? Is anybody else growing bored with having the same inline four as everybody else in town?

Or let me ask this, regardless of what brand sportbike, would you prefer something else than an inline 4??? Has anybody else caught the fever, or have I just been watching too much youtube?

There's a very satisfying noise coming from the rear end of a V4, difficult to describe unless you have open ended cans but then it becomes obvious. Then you twist the throttle... nuff said

I agree that inline fours are smooth and have power but boy do they sound boring to me, least compared to a V configuration. I mean go listen to a Ducati and you'll know what i mean. Or dare i say a Harley even. Point is, the V type engine has bucketloads more character than any other type of motorbike engine, sound, feel, and for that God, we're eternally greatful...

I've owned ten V4/V2's. Yup, IL4's suck (owned 4); however, the one IL6 I had was very nice in it's own special way.

Yeah, this is what I am talking about...the "V" sound is different, and more intoxicating that a standard inline 4. Hard to beat that "V" sound and as you stated, character.... :clap2:

I have never owned a I-4 mostly because they are over common. I am attracted to the wierd, the unusual, the rarity. The viffers and Valkyrie fits that bill. I came close to buying a buddys Vmax at one time. OMG, that was a wild ride.

I hear Aprillia is working on a V4 liter bike that looks pretty sweet too.

On the Vtwin side of the fence, really has never turned me on -- I guess you
    could say I am a V4 whore!

I was actually looking more for a twin when I stumbled onto the VFR. It was the only thing close to my price range so I bought it. Good fit. Good sound. I like. Also was looking at CBRs... would probably have gotten bored with one by now, but still like to hear the VFR.

My 1st twin was a Ducati 996.... I came to the Duc from and R6, Dont get me wrong I loved the R6 because of the way it made me ride. On the 6 I had to learn to go into corners with a tremendous amount of corner speed to keep up with liter bikes on the exits. I think that If I had never had the r6 I would not have learned to carry good entry speed due to the fact that you can make up for it with motor.
going from the R6 to the Ducati I could carry the same entry speed but with the smooth power delivery I could get on the gas earlier in the corner with more control..... not to mention that the 996 put out similar real world power as most modern sportbikes. So I would say that is why I have decided that I prefer an motor that made a nice flat torque curve over an inline 4 motor.
I just got my vfr... Its and 87 700. Obviously its down on power to most of the all of the I4 sportbikes on the market right now but in the real world I would bet that the tq #s will make up for alot of its lacking especially with the right pilot aboard.

I was actually looking for two v twins before i bought this 2001 vfr. I was looking for an sv1000s full fairing and a suzuki tl 1000r. Those bikes were hard to find for a good price and in good shape. After test riding a few cbrs i rode this vfr and fell absolutely in love with it. Not a superstreet bike but it does everything and anything i want it to do plus much more comfortable.

    Hey Blackhawk,

    Nice bike!

Where are you around Detroit? Do you ride much? My brother lives in St Claire Shores, and rides a 2000 Blue R1, and a 2007 KTM 950 Super Enduro (I used to live in Royal Oak, Troy, Berkley, and Novi). He is always looking for other cool people to ride with.

My first V-4.....Was when my roomate, who hadn't paid his share of the rent in quite some time, rode up on a 1982 Sabre (this was in 1988). I told him "Give me the bike, pay the rent, or get OUT". He gave the bike to me in exchange for the back rent. I've been a V-4 whore ever since. I still have the old Sabre as well as 2 Interceptors, and don't forget the 03 ACE V-Twin.

The V4 sound, combined with the cam noise from the VFR is what made me have to buy one... The first time I heard one drive by I was hooked...

Can't see me getting rid of my baby anytime soon. Even if it's already been replaced by a different tourer.

The first time I heard the VFR, I was hooked; it sounds like a NASCAR stock car. I bought my 94 back in 97 (ten years in July) still have it. Sometimes I will just stand out in the garage and stare at it. I love everything about it: the way it looks and sounds; that i can ride it all day long and not get tired of it; how amazingly reliable it's been (I once stored it for a year, jumped the battery and it fired right up on the gas i left in the tank); that it STILL gets stares even though it's thirteen years old.

I've been thinking lately of getting a dual-sport to add to the stable. Don't know if I want a VStrom or KLR650 though. And then there's the RC-51 or 675 Daytona. Decisions, decisions, but none of the choices are an I-4, which i consider boring.

I came off my restricted licence (which was up to 250 cc) and bought the viffer... sound, capacity, and real world rideability.
It was the character thing - something different to IL4 and litre capacity.
It was the viffer or a very soft spot for a motoguzzi with cans..( the BMW witha bra). Settled for the Honda and cannot complain.
