Hey guys, since I'm getting my first bike soon and know there are habits I wish I never developed in my cage (like blipping the throttle to start in first instead of applying steady rpms), what is a habit you wish you never startged on your bike?
    Thanks

    PS don't say wheelies

Abrupt release of the clutch with simultaneous application of the throttle to gain a panoramic view of the sky. :smile-new:

it's only a habit if you do it at every single opportunity.

Using the kill switch to turn the engine off when you stop. Use the ignition switch to turn the bike off or you may wind up with a dead battery more often than you care to experience. I can't really say this is a habit I ever developed, but early in my biking life I rode with a friend who always used to use the kill switch when we stopped for lunch on a ride. Invariably he suffered through having to push start his bike when the headlight being on killed the battery.

I was being sarcastic really. This is more of a regret not necessarily a bad habit. I wish I spent/ spend more time with formal rider education. I keep telling myself I gonna do more track days & the Total Control seminars. One of these days....

Don't have one, but, if I know you well enough I might pull a kill switch prank on your bike ;)

There is a difference. SOW probably does what he says. Scary as that is, if Trump does what he says, we are all in deep shit.

Has anyone read Trump's white paper on converting old people into Soylent Green then setting up a missing persons site at twenty pesos a pop?

Running stop signs, after slowing and checking real good, in the middle of nowhere on county roads. I really feel stupid coming to a complete stop, putting it in first gear then taking off when the intersection is visibly wide open with not a car in sight. John Dillinger probably used to do that too. I just don't rob banks. Kind of hard to feel too bad about it. ; )

Yeah, I am guilty of that too. I play a game with myself to see if I can slow enough without putting my feet down. I pause long enough with my hand/foot on the brakes at each stop sign to safely proceed. I don't blatantly fly through stops, like the bicycles!

Sounds like the bad habit is forgetting the key to me...

The bad habit i need to work on is making excuses. Just suck it up and ride. Little by little i'm kicking my own ass into riding more.

Mine is leaving the key in the ignition. I always leave the key in it when it's in the garage, but somehow that became leaving the key in it when I don't mean too. I've come out a restaurant or store digging in my pocket for the key only to find it still in the ignition on more than one occasion.

On all my other bikes, I locked the bars. On the newer gen 8, it's not just a gentle push and turn left. I really gotta want to lock it. Trying to make myself, but it's annoying.

A good habit I got after wrecking my daytona, and buying cheap mirrors, was always head check. Never trust the mirror when switching lanes. The vfr spoils me, and is lulling me into ruining that habit.

One more thing, don't bite off more than you can chew. 500+ lb first bike? The right wrist at the wrong time WILL kill you.
