Remove the ignition and on the back is a key code stamped in the housing, a locksmith and a dealer should be able to cut a new key unless its a Canada thing and they can't for some legal reason or maybe they both just suck.

you betcha. Last month I pulled the lock assembly off my '90 and called local Honda. They referred me to a local locksmith. Called him up with the code, he said no problem. Ran up there with the lock assembly, he cut the key, verified operation, he cut second key, I was gone in 10 minutes and $22bucks lighter in the wallet.

    TWO means the NUMBER 2

5150 you used that word incorrectly 3 times.

Use the word "to" instead. LOL

Bet your Honda dealer would be more than happy to sell you a couple of blanks and then tell you the job can't be done.

What the other guys are telling you is true. The important part is seeing a real locksmith. Check with a car dealership for the legal stuff in Canada. If and when you find a locksmith to do the job, make sure you bring all manner of proof of ownership two the bike in your too hands and don't wear a tutu to.

I broke one of my keys and the locksmith up here couldnt get blanks, so i bought a couple from the dealership, who couldnt cut them, and took the blanks to the local hardware store and cut them myself, locksmith wanted to know how I got blanks for a vehicle, apparently its restricted to qualified key cutters, which I am not.

"Honda says they cant cut the key."

When a new HONDA is sold at the dealership they get 5 keys. They only give the buyer 2 of those keys. That way they can sell them to you later. That is if THEY have not lost them.

The counter people may not know that but the owner and sales people(family members) know that.

    Do you understand now.

I worked at a Honda dealer back in 1987 and I cut key's back then with a Curtis key cutter, so simple a child could use it. It is just a little hand held thingy with a book that has the settings for said code. Weird you are having so much trouble. It looks like this.

The question is does your bike have H.I.S.S.? If so then you have problems. If not, any locksmith worth a crap can cut the key for you. Just follow the instructions that Toe gave you and you will be up and running. I just had to have a new key cut for my hard bags as my key broke. Took my locksmith a while but they tracked down the code and cut me the key for $8. I was a happy camper.

If you aren't too keen on taking the ignition barrel off the bike for various reasons, take the bike naked up to your locksmith. They should be able to find the code easily and cut it on the spot for you.

Lots of difference between a real locksmith and some dude who can run a key lathe at a hardware store. Just had a standard non-bike/auto key duped and the lathe is computerized.

If what DB says about the number of keys that come with a bike from Honda is valid, then maybe it's time to start telling these dealerships that they just can't get away with BS that dealers have been pulling for years.

Had one of those "family" dealerships in my hood. First Honda dealer in the State. MIAA-Tits UP-Ch 11-Bye-bye. Blamed their failure on everything but what made them fail. Boo-Hoo ? Not on my dime..

Well it was true when I was a HONDA mechanic at a dealership , because I was there when the crate with the new bike was unpacked. Things may have changed but why not at least ask the dealership the bike came from? Can't hurt right?

Bikes also came with left and right mirror but the dealership kept the right mirror and the can of touch up paint that came with the bike.

Problem is there was no sign at the parts counter to let the customer know they could BUY the touch up paint or the left side mirror. So the box of mirrors and cans of paint piled up year after year.

I worked at another HONDA dealer that kept all the old batteries (stacks of them) in the same space (small space) where the mechanics worked so they could breathe all the gasses being ommited from them until I complained and had them moved to an out door shed.

One dealership was doing valve jobs without using the factory tool for cutting valve seats until they they asked me to fix a motorcycle that had been rebuilt 3 times and would not stop smoking. (Lawsuit time) I had to explain to them that the HONDA valve seat cutter has 3 angles, not one angle like the car valve cutting machine had that they were using. I went to another dealership and borrowed the proper factory tools.

So the valve had 3 angles on the face, and the valve seat was cut to one 40ยบ angle so it was no wonder it would not work.

I work for one now, also Yamaha and Kawasaki, and they come with 2 keys and 2 mirrors that stay on the bike. I've been in the industry for 12 years and the bikes have always come with two keys. I've never heard of a dealer that keeps and sells the mirrors, that's just stupid. We give the customer EVERYTHING that comes with the bike/atv/watercraft/etc., any action other than that is just wrong.

LOL! Maybe those extra keys were to make it easier for the stealership to repo the bikes. Some might say the dealers have us at heart. More like a stake in your heart than anything else.

This holding back on stuff is nothing new. Camera dealers for years would take the cases off cameras from the manufacturers and sell them as separate items. Saw an attic of a retail camera outfit once that had so many old cases up there one could hardly move around. I figure there was about 150 cows who gave up thier lives for that one outfit..

The Locksmith is the easiest, and also affordable route. They charge what they want, and it's around $20/each from what I've read. There are other services out there, but locksmithing is best you'll likely need at least one of your keys to get the new ones programmed.
