New (?) fireblade - litre v4 moved back to reasearch project

MCN in the UK published a 2 page spread on the next year model of the Fireblade, power up a massive 5bhp (you can get more than that with an aftermarket end can) and a whole 8kg weight loss, giving it "a tangible step forward" ... apart from a completely new airbox/intake system and Bosch electronics it doesn't seem that much different, I know if I delayed buying a Blade until 2017 I'd be well pissed

As for the 1000cc V4, this has now been pushed back into being a research project instead of being in development, while Honda look into a 'possible market' for the machine

It strikes me the real reason is the litre V4 will make the Fireblade sales effectively cease ...

 

Honda's lost it's mind. If you want a v4 sport bike, go buy one right now - used RSV4s aren't that exspensive.

 

Thank you. I don't understand Honda at all anymore. Even Suzuki is coming out with a revamped liter bike. Honda, meh, they've lost their way. May as well call them Yugo.

 

Exactly.....it's not even as if the power output has cleared 200bhp, Honda are pissing in the wind

 

I'm reserving judgement, recall that we haven't seen the bike yet and also these details are still unsubstantiated.

That said, the upcoming GSXR 1000 and the R1 and ZX10 are all really exciting bikes, so the bar is high.

 

Exactly.....Honda is the stripper you keep making it rain on.....all the while, you get NOTHING of what you really want. The high end R1 is REAL.

Maybe rain on is an analogy for throwing money at and hoping you'll get some? Kinda fits with Honda, cuz as with a stripper, it never happens. All hot and bothered, but you're left going home alone and taking a cold shower.

 

Maybe new motorcycle development has taken a back seat to the tremendous R&D investment they're putting into McLaren Honda in F1.
