I left home (Raleigh, NC) yesterday with a plan to ride a 600 mile loop in two days through the VA,TN,NC mountains. I was going to camp somewhere, or maybe splurge and get a hotel.

About 5hrs in, I was feeling really good (and cheap) and decided just to ride home. I was good until it started raining. That's the main reason I took US-64 home instead of I-40. I typically stay off I-40 unless I'm trying to get to the mountains. But in the rain, no way.

When I got home, besides my wrist being a little sore, I was feeling pretty good.

This photo was taken heading towards Roan Mountain on TN-143

That got me wondering, beside anyone who has done an IB, what is the longest mileage or hours you've been out on your bike in a 24hr period

Short of a real "Ironbutt" rider, that old Canadian dude on the white bike probably can tell you.

Just completed my IB Saddlesore 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours wall time or less) the other day in ~20 hours. I would have been closer to 16 hours but I was waiting at one of my last stops for a close friend to meet up with me and ride the last few miles together ... I'm just relaxing down here in the US of A for a few days before heading home now (and waiting on a new set of tires to arrive).

A quick visit to google map figuring the mileage. 847 miles so it says. This one even surprised me, it was in 1996 though, so I'm one hell of a lot younger and in better shape then. Laguna Seca, (Salainas) home to Olympia, I left at 5:30 am, was home at a couple clicks past 7pm.

Total for a trip - ~7000 miles in 24 days. Houston - California - Washington - zig zag diagonally back towards TX.
Longest for the day ~650 miles in 12ish hours (Asheville, NC to Coopersburg, PA).

Both on my Triumph Daytona 675.

Just bought a 98 VFR 800, and I feel like she's in for some loooooooong days.

1167 miles in just over 24 hours. Was returning from R3 (Atascadero Ca to Chilliwack BC)2012. Had intended on making a few overnight stops on the way home. The trip ended up being 5 weeks and something close to 8000 miles so was getting a little saddle sore by this time. But when I got to my first intended stop, I think it was Medford Or, I wasn't tired so moved on. Got to a location just south of Eugene Or, and was tired so pulled off the freeway and parked the bike on an entrance ramp, and had a nap on the bike. Maybe an hour later I woke up and continued on. Kept riding till I got just south of Olympia, Wa and did the same thing. Rain running down my neck woke me up so continued on my way but stopped for a bite to eat in Bellingham, Wa. then continued on the Chilliwack.

Rested for a day or two then packed up the wife, pup and fifth wheel and we were off again for another 7 weeks. 3 months on the road was quite enough for me. Was glad to park my ass on the couch at home for a while after that.

I did the Saddlesore IB two years later

In 50 years of riding I can't even begin to remember what the distance of the longest ride I ever did. I ride to ride, not ride to keep score. Never have understood that type of competition. I know of one guy on the old FJ1200 mailing list who fell asleep and ran off the road trying to do an Iron Butt. Got seriously effed up, and no longer rides. But I have been coast to coast, north to south, and several trips overseas. And some off-roading in Peru. Okay, I did crash a couple of times on that one. lol

I ride until I want to quit, and then I do. And then I get up the next day and do it again if I want. So far so good. No accidents in 50+ years and several hundred thousand miles.

Longest one day ride was probably Colorado Springs to St. Louis distance wise. Longest day time wise? No idea.
