    Hi all,

I have had a 2004 VFR for about 3 months. Loving it except for a strange problem. On every ride so far, the bike will just die about once every two hours. Not when the gears are engaged, but only when the clutch is being held. The electrics seem to stay on and the engine starts right up again.

I don't think the RR or wiring harness has been replaced, in case that matters.

Do you perceive that it may be motion related? Aka the force of coming to a stop? That can point to a safety switch such as the bank angle sensor or the kickstand. For starters the kickstand should have all of its bolts secure, a good spring, and not be floppin' in the wind. Search this site for details on testing each switch, and use the factory service manual. Here is a forum with a PDF:

My '04 used to do that too. Hasn't done it for years now and I'm not really sure just what I've done to fix it, other than to go through all the electrical connections, main ground, battery, ect and give them a good cleaning. It's been part of my annual pre riding season items for years now. You could check the kill switch and clean it as well. Best wishes on finding the solution, it was frustrating to say the least.

Have you noticed the idle being lower than normal right before it dies?

Curious to know your thoughts when the answer to this is yes, since i'm having the same issue as OP on my 2002 and have noticed low idle (<1k rpm)from time to time.
