I know these are hard to find. My question is has anyone tried using an aftermarket one? Or maybe one off of a newer model that does not need a ton of fab work?

Airtech Streamlining makes one that's supposed to be an exact replica of the factory unit. I think you're responsible for drilling your own mounting holes though.

I have a factory cowl for a 6th gen. The tabs broke off one side but the previous owner fixed it. It still works perfectly. Want it?

I am much too new to the VFR bikes to know if it will fit. However jumping from a 1st gen to a 6th gen something tells me that it will not fit. Here are pictures on the stock 2004 seat

I actually have side fairings for my bike that were painted yellow. I personally like the original look better.

You can see them in this pic. I have not put them on since they are a different color then my bike.

Not pretty but what the hell. It is hidden. Nice fix. I like that. Wish I did not throw out my old one with a broken tab very recently.

I was trying to sell all the yellow plastics together. I might consider splitting up the set since they are not oem for the 500F

Well think about it, and if you decide to sell I am definitely interested.

How much were you wanting for the whole plastics?

I dont know how much the shipping for the whole lot would be. Feel free to shoot me an offer on the 2 large side panels and the whole lot. We could go from there. I can send you detailed pics of all.
