Keeping a pannier mounting frame bolt from backing out.

Pretty simple post. The mounting bracket for my GIVI Monokey bags mounts to the underside of the passenger foot pegs. I've lost 2 nuts off the right side in the last month while riding.

What's the best way to keep these from backing off due to vibration? Loctite Blue?

Yup, I would say the blue. Red if you want more permanent

Nyloc nuts, will stay there forever but you can remove them easily if you need to

 

Stover nuts are even more secure.

Never tried to find them in metric though.

 

What the heck is a stover nut? If you ask me, it sounds made up.

You're trying to keep the nuts from coming loose. Thought you were trying to keep bolt from coming out of mounting bracket (with nut welded to bracket) from the title. Did not read whole post close enough. I would go with nylon insert nut like below as example. I assume these are like the Nyloc mentioned above? +1 for those.

Oh yeah, seen plenty but never knew the proper name. Still a locknut though......

 

In critical applications nylocks should only be used once.

Although, I reuse them all the time. Cause I'm a rebel and stuff...

 

All good advice except stay a way from lock washers, they can break from vibration. Nylock's or Loctite would be the best choice IMO.

 

Never knew those nylon inserted nuts were meant to be a one time use only. Learn something every day. If I ever have to use one on a critical application, I will be sure to buy new. Well, I have a whole pile of new ones already. Had am empty tray in my nuts and bolts thingy that needed to be filled so I bought a bunch of those.

Whoops, yep! Sorry, I totally meant the nut kept backing off. It's an 10mm nut if I'm remembering right, and my local Home Depot didn't have the largest selection of metric options. Think I'll just use the loctite for now. Thanks again!

Try ACE Hardware, my two local stores have whole isle of all kinds of nuts, bolts and assorted fasteners.

 

Both nuts and bolts can be swaged. A centerpunch and a hammer is needed. Not the famous torque hammer. Maybe the guy who invented the nylocks figured that they only work once was trying to boost sales. My coffee cans full of all kinds of stuff proves it. I promise some day to organize it all. Someday..
