No idea. I have often wondered how they got the finish on the OE exhaust end cans. It is very thin and very black and glossy.
    Impressive.

If you are talking about the down pipes and the balance box then BBQ aerosols work but the finish doesn't last. They rust at the slightest provocation.

They used a process called black chrome, as Micron used to do black chrome on their aftermarket pipes in the 80's.

Unfortunately as i have found the exhaust system is an annual maintenance item, especially in our part of the world due to the wet weather we really enjoy!!!!
Over the winter, i usually take mine off and tidy it up, especially the collector box, as it is made of cheese and will need no assistance to fall apart.

I've removed my originals and fitted a set of Motad pipes, which look more modern and make that V4 bark that little bit louder, most of my mates who i ride with always comment how lovely the little V4 sounds.

OK. That brings back memories. I have a dim memory of black chrome. I do the same with the collector box. I have two (OK, three but one is mainly oxide). I got a good one from the US. Their climate doesn't seem to rot them like this side of the Atlantic does.

Are your Motad pipes the ones for the VF500 or some generic pipe?

The Motad pipes were the original n-eta pipes they did back in the day, picked them up off ebay for a ridiculous £40.

    Yep, that was last summer.
