I've always wanted to see what they looked like polished. Might just have to go there myself. LOL. Done a lot of aluminum polishing in my not-so-distant past and those do look amazing. What did you use to strip and polish them?

I would like to know the details and how you polished as well. I need to make a change and considered doing this.

That is one of the best polish jobs I have seen and look sharp.

20160610_085613.jpg 20160618_092622.jpg 20160524_153908.jpg First job was to remove tyres and mask bearings in front wheel .Then its on with brush on paint stripper about a 1/4 of a side at a time. The coating on this 2008 model was extremely thin so just scrapped off with scrapper then steel wool and soapy water to clean up.The biggest job next is to remove all the rough casting .I used 120 grit first to rip it down then with wet paper went finer 320 to 600 to 800 then 1200 and finally 1500 to really smooth it all out .Then its the more satisfying job off polishing it up .I use a drill and a large buffing wheel 150mm multiple cloth type with Autosol polish then smaller wheels for tight spaces then hand polish every area at end.Its not an easy job but if you've got the time and patience go for it .all up 15 plus hours per wheel. When sanding I just put a line over every spoke and rim surface with a vivid black pen to show where ive sanded between different grades of paper .
    Cheers Neil.

Did you spray any clear on them to protect? Otherwise, won't take long before those dull out.

They look like completely different wheels!! Very nice job. Just getting some stuck on road grime off mine yesterday was a butt load of work. Not sure if have the patience it takes to finish that job.

Gives me something to shoot for though. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah I'm not clearing them .I'm used to polishing 16 wheels on a truck and trailer unit so 2 is no worries .Now they get a couple minutes each with a finishing polish called Truckers Pride locally made here in NZ

I love polished aluminum. The bad is the upkeep over the years. They look great.

Those rims look great, I want to do this to mine but I'd like to learn the quick easy way to do it...... if only there was. I barley have the time to wash the bike let alone strip and polish them.
(Anyone in Southern Ontario want to trade a set of silver for my stock black rims this weekend when I am changing my tires?)

I can appreciate the work you put in there and couldn't do it myself. I sanded the mold lines out of mine before powder coat and that was more than I could take!

    Nice work

I spent quite a few years when I was younger doing detailing work on semis. Polishing the wheels, tanks, checker plate, battery boxes, and the odd full trailer. They looked amazing once finished but MAN what a lot of work. Think the worst part about it was it was messy. The aluminum polish (we used jewelers rouge (or sometimes called Tripoli) and though it works well, it gets everywhere.

Coming from a fellow detailer, my hats off to you there Neildoubleu, an excellent job on the rig and the bikes. I purchased a second set of passenger footrest brackets and have started sanding and polishing them. So far I've managed to do the clutch side footrest bracket. Taken about 8 hours so far. LOL. Once I get those done I'm sure the wheels will be next.
