So I've read through TONS of threads about tire qualities and preferences, but one thing I've noticed is that I don't think I have seen a single post regarding Continental ContiRoadAttack 2 EVO. These are what my bike came fitted with from the PO. Has anyone else run these tires or have any info as to how they perform compared to the other popular tire brands?? I'm probably going to be due for a rear tire by the end of the riding season and looking for any info I can get as to what kind/how much change to expect going to a new set.

Nothing at all?? No one has run or heard anything about these Conti's before?? I knew I had never heard them mentioned when I bought the bike (2002 VFR) and seen what kind of shoes it was wearing. They seem to me to have a decent amount of grip, although I've noticed the front is maybe slightly unstable when soaking up road imperfections in a decent hard corner. (That could be 100% suspension related also) But I have no experience with any other tires besides the factory type Bridgestone for front and Shinko rear on my '93 VFR..... And those lack grip tremendously IMHO. Any and all info and opinions are welcome!!

It is Friday, and moving into the weekend. People are on the go. These next three days can be a very slow time in the forum, especially during good riding weather. I cannot say if someone will pop up for this issue, but you have only allowed three hours. Please be patient.

We are definitely spoiled that we may post many questions and within 10 minutes have the solution from 5 different people. This is a spectacularly supported forum. But, the people with the answers are not always here.

That is true, I didn't really think about it going into the weekend. I just noticed that previous tire threads usually pick up comments and opinions about the same rate that rabbits breed :eek:nthego:

I don't want to disturb your conversation with yourself but... I had a set on my bike for over 7500 miles and they have great traction wet or dry. Great mileage as well. I ride about 65% commute and 35% weekend carving.

Thanks SilverSurfer. How would you compare them to something newer such as a PR4 or whatever you might be running now??

Actually, I've never run Continental tires. I've run Bridgestone BT016 Pro and my current T30 Evo. I've also run Pilot Road 3 & 4. I've run the PR4 on the track and I liked them. However, now that I've been running the T30 tires, I realize the PR series are a rather flat profile in comparison, which tend to give the bike a sort of wooden feel and increase effort on turn in and transition.

I'm about 1500 miles into the Bridgestones and they liven the bike up substantially with their sport tire profile. It's a very dramatic difference, as can be attested by others here that run them as well. Very good wet traction and dry grip. I've yet to go to the track with them, but I have no reservations about doing so. Leon Haslam runs them on all of his bikes at his riding school.

Continental is a respected tire maker. I doubt their main offerings will be poor. I think you're fine, when you start dipping into Tomohawk and Shinko that's when you're gambling.

FWIW, given very negative experiences (tire failures) with Continental tires on cars and bicycles, I darn sure won't put my life on the line with them on a motorcycle. Right now, I think Bridgestone has the tires to get. All you're going to get here is opinions. Just keep reading and buy a set of tires.

Well, I have never heard of Tomohawk tires. Shinko tires are an evolution of Yokohama. I have used Yokohama tires on my race car way back in an earlier life and on various street cars. I have also used Shinko's on my V65 Sabre. I never had a problem with any of them. I will be putting Shinko 009 Ravens on my Trophy when I take off the PR4's that got superslab syndrome over the winter. The Shinko's are a quality tire like any of the other big names.

If you personally had a bad experience with Shinko, please tell us about it.

    Cheers,
    Glenn

I guess I only have hearsay. Shinkos got clowned on as cheap tires by other sportbike riders in my social circles, and became a go-to tire for drag racers for some reason.

    http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/2010/11/article/shinko-005-advance-tire-comparison-review/

They seem to be 'ok'. They are cheaper than Bridgestone, Michelin, Dunlop, etc. They could be the same quailty just charging a lower invoice, or they could be cheaper to sell because they are cheaper to make. If they are cheaper to make, there has to be a compromise of quality in there somewhere.

Yokohama car tires are great, however that means nothing about motorcycle tires (as well it seems Shinkos are made in South Korea and have little to do with Yokohama besides buying their old molds and tech in 1998.)

I've been a Michelin or nothing guy for a few years now on the bikes. I used the Shinko's on the V65, then replaced them with PR2's. I have no qualms going to the Shinko 009's. It might not happen until next spring, though, as big life changes will limit my riding this summer. I'll report back in due time.

    Cheers,
    Glenn

The EVO 2 that I was running were pretty even profile tires. They don't have a huge drop off into the corners at speed and instill confidence at any speed. I agree that their car tires were not the best as I tore through a set on a hot hatchback in barely 20,000 miles. I'm not running anything at the moment since VFR's and cars can't occupy the same space at the same time... I can't compare with any other modern tire only to the old Road attacks which the new EVO's are majorly better.

LOL ya got a love a tire thread as much as an Oil thread. Way back the Cont where not that bad, I ran em, thing is a lot of dealers didn't carry em, so there not as popular. Hence why you see Dunplop and Bridgestone. That said get what your comfortable with at a price that makes you feel good. Personally I run on Pirellies

I ran Continental Road Attacks on the 919 that I sold 6 years ago. So I have a lot of experience with the previous generation Road Attac., but not the new ones.

When they were new, the old Road Attacks were heavy, and were stiff to put on on, and lasted longer than any other tire I ran at the time. They had more rubber on them than other tires, and handled real well. I did track days on them. I liked the way they looked.

I just did a little research for you, and the Continental doesn't win, or land in the top 3, of any significant tire shootout. This doesn't mean it's a bad tire - tires are so good now, even the 'worst' ones are probably pretty damn good. But if you're asking if it stands up to a Pirelli Angel GT, PR4 or The Bridgestone BT whatever, then the answer is probably 'No'.

My vote goes to the Pirelli Angel GT by the way. Excellent tire, great grip, good longevity, sharper profile, good (if not great) on wet pavement. It probably has more 2016 independent tire review wins than any other.

Tire thread = oil thread. Main thing to remember is to put oil in the engine and tires on the wheels. Then put the wheels back on the bike.
