    I'm about to buy a used '02 VFR 800.

The bike is black. I'll have it checked at the dealer this Thursday but I was wondering... was it available in black in 2002?

Looking a specs, it looks like it was only available in RED.

Could this be a crashed bike that has been repainted black?

    Thanks

If memory serves I think initially there was only Red to choose from... The Black ones actually showed up later in the year... I could be wrong on this though....

Red is only available color for 02 model in North America. Good luck.

I think you can find the paint codes on the bike, but I dn't recall where...anyone? anyone? Then you can determine if the paint code matches the paint matches the VIN to see if it was repainted.

Black was def available in Europe in '02. Colours available that year were dark blue, red, black and silver so the bike could be an import seeing as you're in Canada.

The color code is under the seat, directly under where the rider sits. White sticker, ya can't miss it.

Is there a way to decode the VIN to get the color code if the stock seat was replaced?

The code isn't on the seat, its on the frame under the seat, if the white label is missing from the frame then be wary...

It should be on the frame section right near the battery.

Ok, the color code on the frame is NH-1, meaning Black.

I confirmed with the dealer, the VIN matches the color. It was bought brand new in Canada in black color. One very rare machine.

The service rep said to me that Honda Dealers in Canada were offered the black version on special order and only a handful of bike were ordered. He said my bike was built in December 2001 and was the 14th to get out of the factory.

I had it checked and it was OK. The chain needed adjustment and the brakes are at 50%. The front tire has about 10% thread left and the rear tire is brand new. The bike is completely stock except for the wheels : the previous owner had them polished. I think it looks good!

I bought it! here are some pics!

Very nice and excellent condition as well, but i'll put money on it its a european spec bike. Have a look at the main side panels, it has VFR written all over it and no Interceptor on the back section which is normally a dead giveaway. Check the piccies in my gallery of the 02 blue VFR i used to own and you'll see what i mean. My current bike being euro spec displays the same features. Probably why there were so few of them brought in as they probably came over from europe. Either way a fine motorcycle, well done :first:

All the VFRs here(Quebec Canada) are like that. In Canada, only the 2004 ou 2005 and up have the "Interceptor" badge on the back. You might be right about it`s European origin as our speedo are in Km/H in Canada.

    Thx for you help
