About to do an oil and filter change on my 2000 VFR800. Bought the bike used (28k miles) and have no idea what oil is currently in the bike. If it helps the previous owner didn't seem mechanically inclined, think last change was done at a dealer.

So... worried about the synthetic or regular oil dilemma. Would like to use the Honda GN4 10-40 but what if there is synthetic in the bike now? Cost of HP4 is considerable but is it a better choice?

GN4 is fine....Unless your bike is high mileage then switch to HP4

Back in 09' I signed up when I owned 84 VF500. Loved that thing, full faring red white and blue.

Have only had the 2000 VFR800 for a couple years and 2k miles.

Pacific Beach by the way, thanks for the info. I'm going to use the Honda GN4.

Forget Honda's overpriced semi-synthetic oil, I use Castrol Power RS Racing 4T which is fully synthetic. Better product and cheaper than Honda oil.

All excellent oil choices, and I agree ... Honda's oils are overpriced, forget them.

I'm running Shell Advance Ultra 4T for Motorcycles.

Damned if I don't see an oil thread developing! Don't ya love them!!?? I suggest "motorcycle oil". The same thing Honda suggests in their owner's manual.

SOW just recycles the same bottles ... he fills up the Viffer with 100% pregnant feline urine. Swears he gets the best mileage with it. The male cats from all around the area follow his bike home - this is how he gets new breeding stock for his feline breeding program.

I used to use Motul semi every 10,000 km which is 6200 miles or so but switched to the Rotella T6 when I retired cause it is so much cheaper when on sale. I use the same oil in my bike, my diesel truck, wife's Civic and son's Civic. Matter of fact, I also use the Bosch filter, same one on my bike and the two Civics don't you know. So instead of several different part bottles of oil sitting around, I have one. Next time I buy oil, it will be by the 5 gallon pail. I will start getting filters by the case if that is cheaper too.

I've used T6 on all my previous bikes without a problem, as well. Always a good deal for the gallon Jug when it's on sale, and even when it's not.

A T6 convert here. Def good stuff. Don't get any of the other rotellas tho, they might not be rated for the wet clutch. If you look on the back of the T6 bottle it's JASO rated for wet clutches.
