2007 VFR - battery died so I just dropped a new one in. Bike turns over but it won't fire - was working fine a week ago, before the battery died. Any ideas? thanks.

Check your fuses. Could have inadvertently blown one on the battery change.

When you say it does nothing .. do the the lights come on (dash, markers, and headlight)?

Does it make any noise at all when you the starter button? Do the lights dim when you press it?

Some potential idea ... but right now we need a lot more information. :)

    - Kill Switch
    - Fuse
    - Bad Ground (possibly the cause for a bad battery originally) / Short
    - Bad Starter
    - Bad Starter Relay

Happily, I did what any IT guy would say to do. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it fired up! We'll chalk this one up to gremlins (or a loose connection though everything felt solid).

Glad it works, but I'd spend more time on it vs. calling it a day.

It happened for a reason, and I honestly don't think it was a 'reset' / 'power cycle' solution that fixed it. Last thing you want to do is be stranded by it.

Ok so let us push a bit deeper, the battery died? how long have you owned this bike? how old was the battery? we see it all the time here people think the battery has died but that is because the charging system is failing

Thanks - had the battery tested (before I bought a new one) and it was, in fact, dead. I've owned the bike three years and the battery hasn't been changed since - I don't know how long it was there before I bought it. I don't know what the black lead is that hooks to the battery (I am about as far from Mr. Goodwrench as it gets) but I suspect there wasn't good contact there.

Bonk .. have you done "the drill" yet? If not, you should probably do it to be safe.
