    Hi All

Been lurking drooling over everyones VF/R resto threads, thought it was about time I got myself one! I've just purchased a 1986 VFR700 in RWB colors, to move up to from my little '89 VT250F.

Any you knowledgeable gentlemen able to tell me if the 1989 model front fairing (and headlight cowl etc.) fitting is compatible with my older 86 bike? I'd like to restore my RWB to the Honda original look, as it's had some muppet rip it off and stick on some tacky round headlight - I've found a complete 1989 bike with an engine fault, cheap enough to grab for parts.

Cheers and thank you all! I look forward to continuing drooling over all your bikes.

Hey, mite, i have an '89 VTR250 and '86 VFR 700s too !! Now the '89 VFR was never imported to the USA, so few of us have seen one. My guess, however, would be that it fits. To confirm that guess, study the parts fiches for both bikes, and if the front fairing/headlight stay is the same, you're good 2 go.

Nice bike! Mines been painted matte black by the previous owner, haven't got pics since i put on decals but here it is just after a 350 KM trip.

Looking at pictures it looks most likely to fit, and itll be useful to have a parts bike as well. Now comes the frustration of waiting a week for it to be shipped up from the south island... grrr...

Too dark outside to get stuck into anything just yet, but I'm already planning everything i want / need to do.

Just ordered the new fork seal kit, just trying to negotiate price with the parts bike I'm looking at for fairings (these are a little rough, and the whole front fairing is missing, got some mock up of a single light headlight. Ill put up more pics in the morning.

    Exciting!!

How safe is using a waterblaster on these? The PO left it VERY dirty, lots of old dried clay on the front exhaust panels and rear mudguards. Also have the use of steam cleaner and work for all the built up oil.

There will be some challenges, but in the end you should get it fitted. I don't think they are different enough to make it un-doable.
    Good luck and welcome.

Oh no Squirrel! Did you see how Honda completely ruined that VTR by putting {gasp}, 2 front discs on it? What were they thinking?! ;-)

I wouldn't power wash the bike, at best use plain water only at a distance. High pressure soap will be driven into places you never find. A bucket, hot soapy water, and some old paint brushes, then rinse gently.

So she's home now, started pulling her apart. Didnt end up power washing, took the NON lazy route. :p

Took all the existing fairing off, its in pretty poor shape. So purchased the parts bike, to take all the fairing off and get it painted RWB colors. Yay!

I think its missing a lot of the mounting points for the fairing, so hopefully i can take those from the parts bike. Its a shame the fairing is in such poor condition, the motor seems sweet as no weird sounds, that V4 motor... ahh...
