I've wanted to put an air horn on my 2000 VFR ever since I got it last year.
I bought a single piece Stiebel, but could not figure out where to mount it without splitting apart the horn and compressor.
Well, since I'm laze and did not wan to hassle with splitting apart my Stiebel I put the project aside.
Then I came across the Denali Soundbomb Split Dual (air) Horn so I ordered one up from RevZilla.
    Here's my installation:

Nice job. Space always seems to be at a premium for us so finding something that allows the use of existing space is always a good thing.

Nice install/write up Tink. The Sound bomb package says 120 db. about four times louder than stock. What do you think Tink? (Ha ha) Will it scare the hell out of the inattentive cage drivers?

Air horn compressors are notoriously unreliable and many fail after just a few uses. They also have a slight delay before discharging, since the compressor has to... compress(?)
After a bit of research, I went with the Hella Superhorn(s). They sell a high pitched and low pitched one, that are supposed to be combined (on cars, anyway). I put the deeper one on my VFR, and the higher one on my SV650. The VFR sounds awesome now (not insanely loud, but definitely louder and more authoritative than stock), and the SV sounds like a crazy-loud goose (a terrible squawking pitch, but at least it draws more attention than stock).
You can fit one Superhorn in the stock location without much trouble, but two would take some tinkering. And if using just one, it is just plug and play. No relay required.

Sorry for the necro-bump on this thread - Tink, if you're still around, I can't quite place where you mounted the compressor?

I think I'm going to get one of these. The OEM horn is so ineffective and sad sounding ....

Looking at the first photo that's the rear brake reservoir on the right. The compressor is mounted under the tail cowl on the right side.

Despite what Underoath87 said "Air horn compressors are notoriously unreliable and many fail after just a few uses. They also have a slight delay before discharging, since the compressor has to... compress(?)"
The horn works great, no delay and I've had zero compressor failures with the Stebel compressor, which I've had on several bikes.

    +1 on the above.
I've had mine installed for two years, crazy loud and no delay.

Awesome, thanks guy! I see it now (the rubber bands that hold the tools).

You said Stebel, is this not the Denali you installed?

It's a Stebel, rebranded as Denali.

I went with the Sound Bomb mini. I stuck it in behind the left side fairing. Tried a few different locations.

Ah, that makes sense and explains why they look so similar. :)
