Yup, same ones I have (Philips). I only had to remove the 4 bolts holding the tail section so that it would move just enough to get the lower bulb in / out. Very easy.

Did a carb sync on my 86 awhile back and put some seafoam in it to try and clear out gunk. I didn't start it for about a month and it seems to have something in the carbs causing it to act a fool. I never did set the floats on it, thinking i should pull it apart and double check things according to a more in depth guide i found... I did adjust the valves months ago, but i'm thinking i might want to double check them again. It starts right up then dies almost immediately, do that 3-4 times and it stays running, then it gets up to temp and with the choke off it runs great over 3-4k but not so great under, and has a real slow return to idle.

Well today was a sad day as I got to watch my 2004 VFR get ridden away by it's new owner

But this opens the door for me to begin looking at Bikes to Buy upon my return to New Zealand

1st choice is obviously another 6th gen VFR maybe a few years newer

    Other choices include CB1300, FZ1, Bandit 1200/1250, ZRX1200,

What ever it is it will need to be suitable for 350 to 500 km + days with a pillion but sporty enough for a bit of fun in the twisties

I grew up riding the original 70's and 80's original Japanese inline 4's complete with flexy frames with crappy brakes so some of these newer naked bikes should be a bit of a blast from the past

Saw a sign once at a construction site:

"How come there is never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over"

So is the case of my forks on the 83. Last summer I disassembled and cleaned the forks, then sent the sliders out to be powder coated. They looked great, but shop didn't bother to block off the insides, so a lot of glass bead material got inside. I cleaned them several times and even took them to a machine shop to be cleaned. Thinking they were clean, I re-assembled them, put them back on the bike and put in the ATF. I rode maybe a 100 miles, but they didn't feel right. I drained the ATF and it was full of glass particles! Took them off again a couple of weeks ago and disassembled them again. This time I realized I never removed the "oil locks" at the base of the sliders, thought they were pressed in there, but with a little coaxing they came right out. Now I could get to the bottom of the tubes with a brush and thoroughly cleaned them. Rinse all parts in gasoline (only solvent that worked on the ATF), then washed with simple green. Put Lucas Oil synthetic ATF in and all appears well. Want to thank Nils Menton of RestoCycle for his advice and the suggestion of using BenchBuddies brushes. Unfortunately, they had a problem with their web site and the order was never shipped till Monday, I did have brush that got down in there and did the trick.

I actually only took my Zumo 590 and my Givi monorack and top box along with my 2 bros mufflers off the bike

I left the new stator and roadster cycle reg/reg kit on the bike ( being a consumable part anyway )along with the PC3 usb and the scottoiler as well as the braided de-linking kit

But now I Get to do it all over again which is just as much fun as riding anyway

Did more spring / pre-trip maintenance today:

    • Re-mounted the voltage display I installed last week with a 3D printed mount from my buddy.
    • Removed 5lbs of uselessness (PAIR Valves)
    • Removed airbox snorkel
    • Disabled the airbox flapper
    • Replaced the air filter (and removed a mouse nest)

Yes ... a freaking MOUSE NEST. Wish I had checked this sooner.

So, when I bought the bike from Meidl Honda in Saskatoon at the end of last summer, I requested that as part of the deal they do an oil and filter change, air filter change, and a fill the tank so I can just hop on and ride back to Manitoba. It appears they did most of those things ... EXCEPT THE AIR FILTER.

I know this didn't happen over this past winter because there are pine cones in the airbox. We don't have an pine cone bearing trees nearby for at least a few km's. This explains why the low end was so snatchy and why the VTEC felt so much more harsh than my other bike when it engaged.

At any rate - all fixed now. The power is so much more linear now, the bike starts and sounds better, and I should see my fuel economy improve. AND, I can now read out my voltage display. :)

The mouse nest ... ugh ... I pulled it all out and washed the top and bottom of the air box, as well as the velocity stacks:

Rode to the D-Store in Costa Mesa to go check out the presenters for 'International Women's Ride Day'. They had women riders their trying to help promote female rider associations and educate new or potentially new female riders about how to get started. There was also a few track day groups there who cater to new and female riders. I actually one a 50% off a track day from 'M1GP', they offer riding clinics and track days using their bikes, Honda CRF100's.

    @Jeff

Now all you need to do is figure out how to convert the flapper valve into mousetrap and you could make millions in aftermarket sales with the high number of mouse condo's relating to VFR's

My buddy and I were talking our bikes out of winter storage once in Calgary and we rolled the bikes out onto the driveway and started unplugging the various air inlets and exhausts. I had a CB900F at the time and my buddy Doug had a 1987 Kawasaki Ninja 1000R. I had wrapped each of the pod filters in ziplock bags, stuffed some rags in the exhaust outlets and wrapped a facecloth over the end of the pipes to keep out rodents. Doug had always suggested this since the bikes were stored outside in his storage shed and there were always a few mice around.

Well, I uncovered and stripped my bike of its various mouse deterrents, installed the battery, turned on the fuel and started the bike. Mine worked great. Doug's on the other hand, not so much. The bike fired, but ran really rough and was a bitch to get going. Another friend popped by and Dougs dog ran down the driveway to say hi so I went after the dog to make sure he didn't run onto the street since he was a puppy. As we walked up the driveway, Doug revved the engine a bit, there was a cough, pop and a mouse came shooting out of the right (IIRC) exhaust pipe. He had covered one pipe but had been unable to reach the other when he put the bike away because of the way it was parked up against the wall. Doug never saw the mouse shoot out of the pipe, but there was that and a bunch of other debris that was spread all over the driveway and yard. Was hilarious to see.

Removed the TB's, dismantled and thoroughly cleaned, sent injectors to be cleaned and flow tested.
Replaced thermostat, hoses and O rings in cooling system.
Delinked brakes, installed braided lines, removed 1.5k of weight from bike doing this, including 0.5k of unsprung weight from the front wheel.
Rear is internally drilled with one line.
Now re assembled and very happy.
I can now even get to my DMR rear shock nitrogen valve to check pressure.
I just need to find a CBR600RR or 1000RR rear MC to get a bit more bite from the rear.
