First time posting here, looking for some advice on a 6 Gen purchase.

I have recently sold my 2005 620cc Ducati Multistrada. 30,000kms in 3.5 years. (only rode weekends for the last year due to work commitments)
Im looking to get back on the horse so to speak and have decided on a VFR.

I really like the 25 Anv Ed RWB. However I can purchase a 2010-12 for only slightly more.
My question is, will I be significantly better off going with a bike 3-5 years younger with similar kms even though it is within the same revision (ie post 2006 revision).

Here is the actual RWB I am looking at. The lowest km RWB I can find.

And an example newer 6 Gen (not necessarily looking at this particular bike).

These prices are pre negotiation and in AUD, Approx $5970 USD for the RWB and $7090 USD for the 2011.

For the keen eyed I will be posting this on VFR Discussion as well.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

    Matt.

For a car I would get the newer one, especially where I live due to corrosion. For the bike my opinion is to get the RWB that you love.

If you are not planning on keeping the bike long, you may get more when you sell the newer bike. I think that is the only advantage, slightly less depreciation.

If both bikes were maintained, then maintenance is an even deal. If the older one sat longer without use, that means you will have some additional maintenance up front. But I do not think that is fatal.

Others may chime in on any changes to the newer bike. We don't have 2011 models in the US.

I am concerned about the location of that RWB. The surrounding area is a wreck! Some people, not all, may gauge the bike a bit by the organization of the owner.

If it's any help, I just bought an '08 with 4200 miles for $5300 US. it was in northern Minnesota. I've had it for 2 weeks. They're out there man.

Go with the one that's better maintained and that you like.

I'm riding an '02 that I picked up at the end of last season with only 9,900km's. The '02 I had before that only had about 22,000km's when I got it.

I love my 6th gen rides. The 5th gen are awesome too.

Thank you all for the responses.

Knight, this would ideally be a looonnnggg term ride for me. Being long term I am very tempted to go with an 8 Gen but $12,000 AU ($9,000 USD) is probably pushing the friendship with the wife. The VFR really ticks all the boxes I can think of for me. Being 6' and 80kg (175lb) I dont need a 1000cc bike to have fun, brother has a 1000c Vstrom and Dad has a 1200cc bandit.
As a potential daily driver, there is nothing but good things said about its reliability (RR excluded, although improved on the post '06).

The Multistrada was purchased with the head not the heart, as I needed an approved bike for the first 2 years of my licence.

The VFR is a perfect combination of practical and fun. Why look elsewhere?

I do remember reading a checklist for when a bike is older but with low kms (ie sat unused). From memory it was brake/clutch fluid, degraded tyres, corrosion etc. Ill have to find it again.

This google will return posts about inspecting the bike:

site:vfrworld.com what to look for buying

Here in the US people are getting new leftover 2014's for less than $7,000 USD. For such they are a great value. For markets where the prices are maintained not so much. Make sure you check all of the sales sites so that you don't miss one before you pull the trigger on an older bike.
