Has anyone found an aftermarket seat for the 2014 VFR that's a little more plush? I've checked the Corbin website and emailed them - theirs is for the VFR1200. I've got 2 months 'til I go coast-to-coast and think I might just want to consider comfort levels more carefully.

Have you tried Sargent? People seem to prefer them more often than not over the Corbin.

The Corbin seats I've owned have all felt hard to me, even after ample break-in.

I'd recommend a Saddlemen seat kit with new foam, but they don't make one for the 2014.

Nothing like breaking in ones rear end for a ride.

I've emailed Corbin and Sargent. Thanks for the comparative opinion about those two. That helps.

AIRHAWK R, small. I'm going to keep repeating this in every seat thread.

I bought a Sargent which was still too hard for my taste. IMO, for me the issue lies with the manufacturers using a single density of foam. Too hard creates pressure points on the pelvic sit bones, too soft and the foam compresses to the seat pan. I modded the Sargent by having the stock foam sliced in half and adding a softer layer on top of that - similar in effect to what an Airhawk does. Now I can ride it all day. If I had it to do over, I'd just mod the stock seat and sandwich 3 densities together or get an Airhawk.

Heard about this place over at the other VFR watering hole and been curious about it. Heard good things so far but I want to check into it further. Sounds like a good deal so far.

This is what's awesome about the Saddlemen refinishing kit I bought ... it utilizes a variety of foam and gel. It feels amazing, and the quality of the cover is high quality as well. Grab a few beers and you can do it in the afternoon - only problem is that it is only available for 5th and 6th gen.

Great Day to Ride is Spencer. Had that done to the ST1300 seat and it was OK and certainly inexpensive, but still didn't provide what I wanted. Ultimately went with a Sergeant. On the VFR I went with a Lamm. Sent it up to Seth and had him do his magic. When I got it back it still needed just a wee bit more, so sent it back and he tweaked it for free (one tweak free). Overall I'm very happy. The only thing I wish I'd done differently is to actually go there and have it done on-site. I'd prefer to sit a bit deeper in the saddle and the only way to get a true "custom" fit is to have it fitted in person. I know some have had issues/problems with Seth customer service-wise, but I think he does an awesome job and I have nothing but praise for him.

Great idea. I didn't do enough research initially - should have gone this route or similar. Lesson learned.

I did a lot of research on these before I bought one - it's far less expensive than a Corbin or Sargent to boot. The only drawback is that if you get the touring seat, the pillion won't allow use of the solo cover. You can still get the touring seat - you just need to shave the pillion foam down. I didn't bother. When I tour, I usually take the solo cover off anyways for my big yellow marine bag that carries my sleeping bag, pillow, and tent gear.

Seat evaluation after 8400 miles this last month: In preparation for my trip I ordered Airhawk R and Sargent seats. I wasn't sure that the Airhawk was much improvement and I didn't care for the squishy, slidey feeling under me. So I fitted the Sargent seat and set out. Over 30 days (6 were nontravel) I covered 8400 miles, mostly 2 lane roads. I think the Sargent doubled the distance I could go. It didn't feel particularly plush or anything but it seemed to work for me.
If you're interested, just call Scott at Sargent and ask them to reproduce what they did for me.
Incidentally, Minnesota has absolutely the most painful bumpy highways I've had the misfortune of traveling. Couldn't have survived without my trusty kidney belt!

John, did you call them, because I went to the website and "supposedly" designed a seat for the 2014 800f. Let me know, and I am glad if you are right that I am glad I did not pull out the credit card.
