New parts showed up today. Still waiting on the pegs but at least I can knock the tune up stuff out.

Not sure if this will help you since you seem to already have found a used fairing.. on my previous bike before the VFR when i dropped it going around a corner and tire gave out to gravel instead of replacing the fairing and having it repainted.. i just bought a roll of carbon fiber cloth and epoxy.. i peaced the old fairing back together with some 1hr cheap epoxy since it was broken into like 11 small pieces when it shattered.. then i sanded the entire surface down with 80 grit sandpaper and then painted epoxy onto the surface and layed carbon fiber over the fairing... then using a bag and a cheap harbor freight vacuum pump i vacuumed it out so the carbon would bond to the surface of the fairing.. i ended up doing this to all the plastic pieces and the bike looked absolutely beautiful after i sanded and clear coated with a few coats..

That's a good looking repair. Do you have a build thread or any more pictures.

How has it held up with the road wind. And what did you do to prep the surface to get it to hold so well. Since the bike has scratchs and scuffs all over now a vinyle or cloth wrap might be a good idea.

it actually held up way better than the plastics did before, i had a friend accidentally back into my bike one day with his truck and tipped it over in the driveway.. it just scuffed the top clear coat layers of epoxy.. so i just sanded it back smooth, mixed up some more epoxy and painted on with a hobby brush...the epoxy will kinda melt a little as it bonds to the other layer of epoxy and become very smooth and flat....then i just rattle canned a clearcoat over the entire piece.

the epoxy bonds the carbon fiber to the plastics as if you were gluing something together, it become a perm bond afterwards....

I just used the roughest sand paper i had so the surface of the plastic would have sand marks for the epoxy to get into and bond the surface better, more than likely not needed as long as you dont try to bond a butter smooth surface...

i would highly advise away from vinyl, any area around the radiator is exposed to a good portion of heat when you ride hard and in the past i found it would just keep shrinking the vinyl until it pulled itself away from the edges.. it does not happen instantly, but that is what occurred to me using 3M brand wrap...

When i did my carbon fiber, i just used 1 single layer to cover the bike since i was not trying to create a structural part lol... with just 1 sheet of carbon it is way stronger than the plastic was by itself....i didnt want to go to thick so the surfaces would still fit together tightly.. i did apply 3 coats of epoxy after the initial vacuum sealed layer with wet sanding between layers

I bought my carbon fiber from local fiberglass supplier, i think i paid around $100 for 6ftx50inch roll and small setup of epoxy and the stuff i needed to make a bag to seal it in.. it was way cheaper than anyone i got quotes from on repainting just the one plastic...

If you still have your old busted plastic, try it out and teach yourself a think or two.. just make sure you use a resp device with the epoxy......

Since my VFR is red, in the future if i ever drop it or scratch up badly... im probably going to do the same to it.. i would probably do a red carbon weave pattern...

Looks promising but I am not Up to speed on the process of installing carbon fiber cloth onto plastic components. Do you mind sharing a link or your experince?

honestly the best way to learn is to just play with the stuff.. i got some scrap offcuts from a friend who did a carbon fiber bicycle build and he let me have the last little bit of epoxy he had just to play around with...its no harder than painting a wall....

The first thing you do is prepare the surface, you have to sand all the paint off or rough the surface so the expoxy can adhere to the plastic surface.. its no different than using epoxy to glue something to something else... in this situation you painting the epoxy onto the surface that you laying the carbon onto and then using the brush you just use brush strokes to form the carbon to the areas you want it to be, kinda assisting it on soaking the epoxy up.. then you put it in the bag with the breather cloth and vacuum it out so it applies an even pressure across all surfaces while it dries..

then the next day i came out and peeled it all apart and then mixed up another coat of epoxy and brushed it on the surface....then after it dried a few hours i came back out and sanded the surface lightly and applied another coat.. and just did this for 3 coats.. then after the last sanding i rattle canned a coat of automotive wheel clear coat i had laying around onto the surface....

I love the Knight Designs pegs on my '04 - gives me a little over an inch more legroom, which doesn't sound like much but makes a big difference. Easy install and a very high quality product.

Yeah the KDs are what I am going with.

Just priced a new left side foot peg bracket from Honda at $90. Also for a new set of bars it is the same price as a set of heli bars so that kind of settles that.

Finished the oil change, plugs, and all the other normal maintenance and she seems to be running a lot better now. I took it for a small 1/2 mile ride below 25 mph. Every thing seems to be strait but I don't trust taking it out on a road test yet until I get a new peg bracket and pegs.

The KD pegs came in and look and feel great. The knee position is definitely noticeable and more relaxed. We are still waiting for a new left side peg bracket from Honda that was supposed to be here two days ago.

Next items on the list are new grips to replace the heated ones I just took off and end caps for when I order the helibars.

Found a silver left side fairing on eBay for $193 shipped and it's now on its way.

The last item on the list is a factory left side handle bar since the counter weight bolt broke off in the stock one.

Left side fairing came in. I am a little disappointed in its condition because of the scratches all over it but at least it's a fairing.
