I just bought a VFR800 and was looking up gps units online and boy are they pricey, nearly half the price i just paid for the motorcycle.. i typically use my phone for gps in the car, so was thinking of maybe using my phone for gps and place it in a mount of some sort so i can see it and protect it from getting wet...

Found this on amazon, has good reviews.. but unsure if its worth trying.....

I would recommend nothing else besides the RAM x-grip mount. They have 2 sizes you can choose from as well as different mounting options. I lost my iPhone 5 last year from that exact same mount on my ST1300. Just a heads up.

If you're concerned about moisture, buy a Sedici or similar magnetic tank bag with a clear window. Get a life proof case and that should work just fine.

I have to say do not go with a tank bag with a clear window, the clear cover acts like a green house when exposed to the sun. I overheated my phone a few times with my old tank bag that had the window on it. Now I use a waterproof case for my phone and the Ram Mount perch mount with the X-Grip to hold the phone. Been on several long distance trips, many, many commuting miles and never had an issue.

Let me go look for the part number. There is also a mount that you can use in the steering stem. I'll see if I have pics of all this for you. BRB

Rammount's website is too difficult to navigate and find stuff, I went to Revzilla and got the kit below. This is the setup I have on my 6 Gen.

I have that set-up on my VFR. I also have the steering stem RAM mount, so I put the X-mount on the stem mount and the camera on the clutch master mount. RAM mounts are the BEST.

Do not get that version of center stem mount, it gets loose often. Go with this version Click Link Here , it will work on the VFR and is what I have here...

BTW, that wheel on the center pic is a locking mechanism and keeps someone from just loosening the mount and removing it. There are several locking mechanism, but this one is affordable. Click Link Here

I should add if you go with the center stem mount I recommend, you'll have to get the other pieces (X-Grip and Double socket arm) separately.

As I mentioned earlier, be careful with bags that have the clear plastic pockets, they will trap heat and sometimes moisture and could give you trouble. At least that is the experience I had with a phone pocket on my GIVI bag.

hmmmm... just was googling ram x mount and my phone Note 4, because the power button and volume rocker at the sides of the top of the phone, many were complaining that it applies pressure to these buttons and messes with volume and turns it off during bumps..

Well placed, this is not an issue, at least one I experienced. Could also be the case and phone I use. Life proof case and iPhone 5.

I use the RAM mount X-Grip with the steering stem adapter like stated above...X-Grip expands big enough to fit around a lifeproof case if you need waterproof

I have personal experience with my phone overheating on my trip to Nashville two years ago July. It was in a tank bag also. Too hot to charge. Even in the main pocket. I had to carry it in a jacket pocket. X-Grip for me now too. Mounted to the tank bolts.

I appreciate all the help, I'm researching cases now because many place the power and volume button on one holder
