I have 100 mile towing on my car, I would like to have it on the bike too. $30 more for bike, but it is pro rated when putting it on, so right now its $25-i wait till I really start riding and get it even lower,.:funky

yeah i discovered this when my last bike (a yamaha) broke down. Called AAA and thats when they told me i didnt have motorcycle and Rv covereage. I found it interesting that you cant buy just motorcycle, you have to buy motorcycle & RV coverage, like it costs the same to tow a bike and an RV.

you also need to have car towing to get motorcycle towing, not sure on this because it would be very expensive to have just motorcycle towing. The key to this is the 100 mile tow is very nice to have on a bike-just one flat tire and your screwed,

Not a fan of AAA/ Called BCAA here.. When I worked patrol, I saaw how they worked. So many people, especially older people, were left at roadside waiting sometimes a few hours for BCAA to arrive. BCAA contracts to private tow companies and pay a reduced fee to them for BCAA calls. SO a BCAA call gets put on the back burner when there is higher paying non BCAA calls coming in. I suspect it is a similar issue most places.

A word to those who have it. If you need a tow in the area you live in or are familiar with, call the tow company direct and bypass AAA of BCAA. When the tow truck arrives, pull out the membership card then. But as always, check the terms of you contract with them.

Since I arrived out on the west coast, I have had my vehicles towed, as best I can remember, 2 times for my present truck, one of which was paid for by GM, and one time for the bike. I think I save a whole shit load of coin by paying personally for the tow rather than to buy insurance. AAA makes money counting on people paying their fees and not needing the service.

AAA is a bit different here, but the idea to have no towing card out in the middle of nowhere doesn't make want to ride too far:spider:

AAA might be the answer for many. It is easier to pay a frequent fee to cover many expenses. If you are good at saving money, self insurance is the way to go. Very few people get even close in service for what they pay in fees for insurance. I am one of them. I have house insurance including earthquake. I have extended health care insurance to pay for prescriptions, eye care and dentist and more. But. If I could have started decades ago, putting what would have been insurance fees, into a dedicated account and only used that money for its intended purpose, I would be sitting on a huge cash pot by now. Its just that auto service insurance such as AAA is very expensive for what you are likely need. Maybe its for you.

Not sure aaa is worth the dough, but I all ready have car towing and to add maybe $20 for a summer season 100 miles bike tow seems worth the dough to me, I have car insurance with aaa and get a 10% off my car insurance. I may not buy it again however. I agree usually its a bad deal, I only get insurance that I am forced to buy.

AAA does a number of things to make or save money. Statiscally speaking, they know exactly what each member will cost. They save money thru reduced member tows, low priced contractors if their own club trucks aren't available, and they make money by cross selling additional services (insurance, banking, travel, etc). Of course these are regional clubs that run the scam, oops, business, all under the guise of the National Office and club reciprocation .

BTW, you need a "Plus" membership to get the hundred mile tow-anywhere-you-want-to-go option which also gets you a flat bed if you request it. And of course, motorcycle's are an up-sale item so that's $ too. AND you are limited to 4 tows a year.

-ten years before the mast, former aaa employee.

I have AAA but don't feel I want to pay the premium for the RV/Motorcycle coverage so I opted not to go with it. Down here in So Cal there is a lawyer (Russ Rown) who created a motorcyclist support network, where people volunteer their time, skill and/or vehicles to help out fellow riders. If you have a problem, dial the number on your member card and they'll reach out to someone in close proximity to you to lend a hand. I have to say that although I have the card I have yet to be called upon or call upon for support.

On the other side of memberships, the AMA also has a free towing service for being an AMA member. I think being a member is $50/year.

What a hell of an idea! Here's a lawyer that wants to help someone without raping you bank account. Good for him. My apologies to those of you in the legal profession. I am sure you speak often similarly of people in my previous profession. BTW. I don't eat doughnuts.

I bet the lawyer gets a shitload of other bike biz too. Does he have a chopper? ;)

BMW MOA has had a similar network for years. At last look, Honda Riders Club has much the same benefits.

I'm waiting for Krispy Kreme to start selling "infused" donuts.

It may only cost me $20 to add a bike to my towing package for this summer, not something I am going to worry about. I would worry if I didn't have a towing package and broke down somewhere.
