Guys, need your input as I am going to look for a 1996 VFR750 with nearly 20,000 miles.

It does have some cosmetic and body damage. I know charging system: R/R and stator are a known issues on these bikes.

Is there anything I should be paying attention to or checking more specifically? Because of body damage what would be an ideal price for it?

Thanks for any of your input and help.

Awe. the best version of the VFR IMO. Hmm, I would need to have more info with the history to be able to even come close to a price. Prices on these vary depending on basically what the owner knows, and then there's what the market will bare, then there's your take on what you like. Then there's the general overall condition of said machine. First off as great as the VFR is, bottom line it's a Motorcycle, in that all motorcycle have their to dos. after that it gets interesting. Then, for this thread, I need photos!! You can see from $500-$4500 I'm curious now, wheres this VFR at?

So I should be paying attention to just charging issues/electrical problems and of course general stuff? There's nothing wrong on this bike, I suspect :D

Well now other than the obvious things like chain and sprocket, tires, rubber hoses, and over all fit and finish. You all ready know of the VFR achilles heal with the RR, I will say the reason these go in the first place is water gets in the 3 wire connection from the stator that in turn cause corrosion in said connection, hence why then the RR has a melt down. so if you can check that out as you can. I would ask how was it stored how many owners etc, when was the last time it ran? if it's not now, with only 20k on the clock that tells me it's sat a lot, that could be a good thing or a bad thing, just depends. You may have fuel / carb issues, most don't if taken care of, take a peek in the tank for rust, look for mouse nests, you know things that happen when things like this sit around. You know all the fluids will need to be changed right? I mean all of them. might as well if not less than two years add a battey to the list too. That said WE NEED PHOTOS ASAP!! and where this at? ;)

Take a multimeter to check the charging system output.

Run your fingers along the wheels and look for dents. The wheel can be a significant cost for the negotiation.

Bent levers? Most bikes that have been down have them.

Take a flashlight and inspect the tank for rust or gooey fuel.

Look for marks or dents in the fork. Take a ruler with you and use it to find any egregious bends in the fork tubes.

You have indicated that you are going to buy the bike. One piece of good advice that many of us wish we had is do not make an emotional purchase, and go home and think about it before buying. Can you do that? If you post some quality photos here with your inspection evidence these guys may have strong opinions on particular damage or modifications. They may be able to help you make an appropriate offer and save you money which you can use for the repairs. Yes there is the possibility someone else may snag the bike, but another one always comes along.

This is some solid advice, I usually do not bring emotions to it, but whenever deal is really good and seller seems like a reasonable gentleman, then emotions are involved that bike will be a good one.

See few pictures attached, I tested the voltage at idle and 4k-5k rpm it was between 14-15V. As pr seller, R/R has been replaced and all wiring has been upgraded.

There is body damage on the left and right, though it has been repaired(maybe poorly though), bike starts and idles fine, exhaust has a really nice sound, shifts fine and all electronics work. Tires are in good condition, brakes seem fine, chain and sprockets are lubed and no rust.

There's slide alignment issue on the handlebar, very small one.

    Thanks

Ok, if you don't buy this I'm going to track you down and smack you with a wet towel, Do you see that exhaust? that right there is next to unattainable. That and you haven't mentioned the price, I know that could be to personal, but anything from around $2500k area give or take, wouldn't be to bad, but then I don't know what the asking prices was to start a negotiation either. BTW, good job with the Photos, you now can pass go. ;)

You don't want to know the price......Lets just say, if I wasn't working 12 hour shifts, it'd be in the back of my truck without a test ride.

And yes, that exhaust caught my eye when I first saw it. Can you say "glorious song"?

Enjoy it faran. You'll have a great bike w/ low miles and a great site here with tons of knowledge.
