I have had my 2004 interceptor since last July 2015. Last week, when I was riding, my bike died and would not restart. I immediately stopped and turned off the power and popped the seat off to find my wiring harness melted. I had to push my bike almost a mile to my house. The following day, I called the local Dealership here to take it in via tow truck. When the bike made it to the dealership, we popped the seat off to look at the wiring harness. It's badly corroded and overheated causing the plastic to melt. I called Honda corporate to let them know of my situation and they told me the harness recall was taken care of back in 08. Or was it?

With that being said, they opened an investigation into what happened. They will keep my bike until investigation is over which may take up to 2 weeks. Honda made it very clear that it was a very serious situation and will be taking immediate action.

Has anyone heard of this happening or is possible the dealership that did the warranty not really do it and said they did? If that's the case, I wonder how many other bikes are out there with the same potential issue. Time will tell and I'll keep everyone updated.

You are probably aware of the reputation of automotive dealers in general. It is certainly possible that they did not do the work, but this dealer should find out exactly what happened.

Is there a lot of damage to the bike?

How many miles are on this bike? Are there any modifications to the bike such as the wiring being tapped for accessory power? Did you have any electrical issues throughout this year?

    Knight,
There is not a significant amount of damage luckily. 32k miles. No additional accessories besides heated grips but the Oxford grips wire straight to the battery. There has been absolutely zero electrical issues before this ordeal.

Many here complain about the stator-rectifier connector melting independently of the recalled harness. That said I was reading old posts at VFRD about the recalled harness burning up in the mileage range that your bike is in.

Interesting information. I'll have to research that. Thank you very much!

I actually stumbled upon that a few days ago and that is how I learned about the wiring harness issues with the recall. I forgot to add that the Vin sticker was not punctured indicating a recall was done even though it said it was in the Honda corporate network.

Knowing dealers, some of them probably took compensation from Honda for the fix and sold the harness replacements at MSRP.

I found out more recently that my Toyota dealer did not do what they said regarding a warranty fix back when my car was new in 2000. Nothing surprises me anymore. Nothing.

    Update

Honda has settled and will be paying to have the bikes electrical system completely rewired. It's going to take a few weeks but will be worth it. I don't really want to get into much detail, but to keep it short and simple, the dealer who was supposed to have completed the recall did not do it.
