Need an engineer to help? I tryed to get interest in carbon fibre wheels but there were no takers. (Cost no object, right?) $3150 at set, need 15 people.

-Alum sub frame? There are people that do that.

    subframe

I would agree that the subframe would be a cheap place to save a lot of weight. All it really supports is yer butt, the R/R and the exhaust can. Find a junkyard aluminum subframe and have someone modify the mounting points. Or make a whole new one out of bicycle tubing. I have a stock '99 subframe in my shop and will weigh it tonight.

...and just how often do you max out your brakes? I'll bet one front rotor and modern caliper with track compound pads would provide all the braking anyone needs short of a racetrack. Replace rear caliper w/single pot unit and cut the rear rotor diameter down by an inch.

Rear shock weighs a lot. Penske shock would save several pounds and work much better.

Stator weighs a ton. RC 30 unit might drop right in?

Remove the right radiator. Do we really need two? The temps run high because of the thermostat, not the cooling capacity.

Take all non-essential bolts (fairing screws, etc) and drill the centers out to turn them into threaded tubes like we do with all the bolts on bicycles.

Umm, yeah cost is an object with me (the quotee and not the originator of this thread) so that's why they are on my "dream list". They still have to make it to my "wish list" and then finally to my "to do list" before they become reality!

How many people did you get? This might be something for me in the future, but in the past year I have spent like $5k or more on Farkles, so I would have to cool it for a while...

    Subframe

Subframe is nine pounds on a semi-accurate bathroom scale. Looked to me to be lots of opportunity to cut the weight in half. Note: steel = .283 lbs/cubic inch, alum = .097 lbs/cubic inch.

I took jpgs of bare subframe if anyone wants to evaluate if they could fab one up out of aluminum or just thinner walled steel. I have no idea how to post pictures so if anyone wants to post it, send me your email and I'll forward.

a 520 chain, along with an aluminum rear sprocket, will save some weight, but you'll always be replacing the sprocket.

i think that both yoyodyne's and traxxion's websites show ti shock springs.

alloy nuts for the rear wheel are available.
