Hey everyone, new to the forum. I'm from central illinois. I currently own a 93 BMW K75RT, and a yamaha yzf600r. Basically, I've got a sport bike and a touring bike. I'd like to combine the two. I love the look of the 6th gen VFRs and I like the idea of a V4, and Vtec. I haven't found any that I have to purchase yet. I do like having the hard luggage like I do on my BMW. Any hints as to what to look for in a used VFR? or any inside looks to ownership?

Hi Mike and welcome to the MadHouse:welcome:

As for 6th gens, I suggest you focus on the later 2006+ vtecs which came with improved electrics and changes which made the vtec transition a lot more refined. Whilst the earlier up to and including 2005 models had amber indicators - don't assume clear lenses= a 2006+ model as I have seen a few earlier models which have been retrofitted with the clear lenses.

Take your time and you will find there are plenty of 2006+ vtec models out there at fair prices and many come with full sets of OEM matched luggage. The red ones are of course the fastest :potstir: but it seems the RWB scheme models are really sought after and command a premium.

Don't get overly stressed by bikes with higher miles or the scary price for the major services which entail vtec valve checks.

We are starting to see owners reporting that they had carried out expensive checks on bikes with over 100K which simply confirmed that none of the valve gaps were out of spec! So you won't be alone if you decide to substitute a standard oil service for at least every other of the recommended major services shown on the service schedule.

The bad - even the later models can suffer from electrical gremlins, so make sure to ask the seller if the bike has any issues!

Post up pictures if you end up with a V4!

    Good luck

Cool! You pretty much addressed all my concerns. My tentative plan was to look for an 06+ and I'm glad you agree. I would love to find a white one but I'll see what I can find.

And I have to admit, even though I'm no stranger to top end work I was a bit nervous with the VTEC system.

Lol I actually saw both of those. I need to unload at least one of my other bikes first.
