88/89 Signals on 86 vfr700

    I don't see this being a new fad or anything, but it's a cool modification and rare so I'm going to post this.

    When I bought my bike someone had already replaced the factory turn signals with little aftermarket flush mounted units. I wanted something to replace them that was bigger and brighter like OEM but still be durable and flush mounted. I decided to go with the 88/89 VFR750 turn signals front and rear. The rears were easy to source since Honda sold them in the US on other models of bikes. The fronts were harder to get because they were never sold in the North American market. I got lucky and was able to buy a used set from a friend in England. Once I got them it was just a matter of converting them to the US spec which means I replaced the single filament socket with a dual filament 1157 socket. Then I just had to figure out a way to mount them and hope that they fit properly to the early style cowl.

    I also added 3 pin Molex connectors because I got really aggravated trying to figure out which wire goes where.

    I came up with a simple way to mount them. I basically just drill 2 holes making sure they are a snug fit, then I attached a spring and washer and then tighten down the nuts. This pulls the turn signal tight to the body.

    The rears were pretty easy to install. I cut about 2 inches off of the black steel tubular handrail and reinserted the rubber end cap. I trimmed a little bit of plastic off of the bottom edge of each tail light to make them sit level. Then I basically bolted them straight to the rear fender.

    Very nice work, looks very clean. Any chance for more info on your windscreen extension? Looks like it blocks a ton of wind.

    Yeah, it's an MRA X-creen Touring version which is tall enough, but I felt was not wide enough, so I added the side extensions. It makes freeway cruising very pleasant and when I get to where I'm going and want more air on my chest and arms for cooling it folds flat due to the unique hinges. It actually comes with 2 pair of hinges. I'm using the single joint set, but it also has a double joint set for more crazy angles. Once installed you can adjust the angle with no tools. You just give a 1/2 turn of the locking tabs, adjust, then turn the tabs back and it locks tight. You can get tinted or clear, bolt on or clamp on. They are a German company, but you can buy them here in the states from Revzilla. The are very high quality, but the only down side is they cost around $130.
