    Howdy!

I plonked down the coin for the cruise control the VFR1200F should have had from Honda. Murph's sent a nicely packaged unit. The instructions are pretty clear. All I have to do is integrate the cruise control module into the Big Viffer's wiring harness.

I have been thru the instruction manual and understand more about the task.

The control module is disappointingly huge. I doesn't fit under the seat. Well, it will. Some mods are going to have to be made. I think I'm going to need to make a hole in the rear fender for the module to poke thru.

Plan B involves scrounging a Goldwing 1800 cruise control system. From the looks of things it won't be much more difficult to install. It has the benefit of being smaller. Anyone have a GL1800 they are parting out?

I also noticed that Polaris, I mean Victory, uses the same Rostra cruise control system on their bikes. I feel better about the quality of the product if these are the same parts Victory installs from the factory.

I may need some help in the next few days, weeks, identifying the proper wires on the Big Viffer to hack into. I do have the manual. That ought to help, right?

    ß!

IF I had a FI bike, Iwould want a plug and play unit the either fits on or in my dash.

    But I don't, yet.

Hahah, that's just cool. That guy is almost certainly an experienced electrical engineer, or a software engineer with a serious embedded systems background. Not gonna be much help to the layperson. but if he's sellin' em that's pretty awesome.

You may find that the right hand control from the early GL1800 are cheaper new than used on Partzilla. I forget what years but there is a break point where the price jumps dramatically. I think 2001 to 2003 is what you want They are like a $120 bucks on Partzilla. They are big and your new starter button will say Reverse and not Start. These are commonly used on ST1300's for the cruise addition.

I just started selling cruise control for the Yamaha FJ-09 and my supplier and I are looking for a VFR in the Minnesota area to test. My supplier has been designing cruise control systems for the past 25 years for autos and bikes and has a great system. Some bikes will be 100% plug and play and some need a few wires spliced in but nothing too major. Hit the brakes, clutch or if traction control kicks in the cruise shuts off.

If anyone in the Minnesota area would like a free cruise control installed in return for letting us use your bike for a few days, email me at rob@cruizin.net.

Once we can test a bike we will design the wiring harnesses and have full complete electronic cruise control kits for under $350, within three weeks of testing.

If this post breaks any rules please let me know instead of banning me. If this works out I may be interested in becoming a supporting vendor.

Clearly, that attempt at thread resuscitation failed, so how about another?

Has anyone managed to fit the Rostra to a VFR? I'm looking to custom-fit a cruise control to an older, non-"throttle by wire", VFR, and the Rostra still seems like the best choice. (Actually, I'd like to fit it to several of my bikes...without spending $300 on each.) I have a plan. :love-struck:

    Ciao,

I guess that's a "no" then. Further research reveals that the Rostra basic kit can be had for $200, but involves a serious amount of DIY. Perfect!

The main issues appear to be (1) fitting the massive combined unit somewhere on the bike, (2) figuring out the appropriate mechanical throttle connection, (3) figuring out the wiring and switches, and (4) adjusting the dip switches for best operation. The Rostra has been around for a long time, so there is a lot of information out there about it, but there is also a lot of conflicting information out there, which makes it all a bit frustrating. But I like a challenge, so I'll probably pick one up the next time I'm back in the 'States and stick it on a shelf in the garage for a few years...

    Ciao,
