So im new to the sports bike world. I came from a yamaha v star 1100 classic to my 04 VFR which I have had for just shy of a month now. I hated the freeway on the V star because it was gutless and hated the twisties because it was like turning a couch. Enter the VFR. I love everything. I love flicking it in the twisties, leaning this way and that. But I also love the freeways because getting up and cruising at 80-90mph on this bike is just absolutely effortless and comfortable. I'm not sure that I have a favorite if i had to choose between twisties or freeways. What about you guys? Twisties or freeways and why?

By all means, twisties are preferred by me. I think most will see it that way too. But I do like the open raods too. Something about the freedom of traveling long distances with no specific plans on my mind. I haven't been a life long rider but in the shorter time I have been riding, I have logged in some megga miles trips in and around back and forth everywhere. Would do that even more often now that I am retired if fiances would allow.

Depends on what im doing. Commuting is almost always boring freeway despite there being back road options. If im just riding to ride it's meandering through the twisty back roads or hammering the technical corners.

Not freeways...open roads and sweeping bends float my boat. I have miles of tight bends, blind corners and green tunnels in my neck of the woods, so its a pleasure for me to ride on open sweeping roads.

TWISTIES! If you're not yanking and banking it, then you might as well cage it!

Ooo most of the time I prefer the sporty roads with curves in the back country, but the thing is there's times when the shortest distance between two places is a straight line, so once in a while the super-slab is a necessary evil to get to said curves

I guess I should have clarified. I meant open clear freeways. Like early morning Sunday freeways. When nobody is on them and you have 6 lanes to yourself. There's just something that I love about a giant empty freeway.

Even a giant 6 lane freeway is boring. One of the giant reasons to ride 2 wheels is the gyroscopic joy in the twisties.

A wide open freeway would be fun, at wide open throttle.
    Who has't fantasized about "that".

Twisties and backroads on a two-week ride. The less freeways involved the happier I am.

It's all about the corners. Driving a sports car on a nice twisty road is great too, but it's the leaning on a motorcycle, with body movements so integral to the process, that sets it apart and makes it so special for me. I choose routes to places specifically for the back roads to get there. 100 miles on the odometer to get somewhere 25 miles away.

Even when the freeways are wide open (very rarely), they are in such poor condition and debris falling off vehicles, I wouldn't chance any extended high speed ventures.

Highway/good seconardy roads in BF where ever. Like Dakotas, AZ, NM, WY nobody really on the desolate roads and you can cruise at 120-150mph for miles and miles and miles in comfort. I like that! Twisties are cool, high speed cruising is a rush. Then crack the throttle open and fly...............

Slab it daily, tends to help me brake the speed limit quite frequently like 125 mph a few nights ago...very exciting. ...my favorite is long ass high speed sweepers. ...Angeles Crest Highway is undoubtedly one of the best roads in SoCal for that, oh and can't forget Hwy 33

Twisties for the obvious reasons of actually using the motorcycle like a motorcycle. Unfortunately I live in the western states and any serious long distance ride involves freeways. The western states are just too damn big to avoid them. I do a 2 week trip each year and I have to use them to get some distance from home.

I agree that this big can hustle and I love getting her up to speed on the freeway. With all my gear for 2 weeks, my wife, and my fat ass on board I can still fly at any speed I want. Plenty of power.

But nothing beats a 2 lane country road through the mountains somewhere with little traffic. I will take watching for animals over watching for crazy drivers any day.
