I just tore down my 1991 vfr for some heavy cleaning and replace some parts. Now I have it together and I have no tempature reading for the coolant. And then I notice this..

At least it didn't let you down on the side of the road 500 miles from home as has happened to many. You have now joined majority of VFR owners with failed charging, once again I say thank you to Mr F#$%^N Honda. Do "the Drill" post #9, somebody will pull it up for you, it should be a sticky on the front page of VFR World and every other VFR forum in the world

Plug is between stator and r/r. Burning there is all too common. Best fix involves cleaning the wires and soldering them together, covering with tape. That plug's got nuttin ta do with temp gauge, sorry.

You misunderstand maybe. No problem with the r/r, just with a simple plug. Doesn't matter which yellow wires are connected to which after you remove the plug and bin it, then solder the wires.

So 3 yellow wires, are you saying it doesn't matter what wires connect to each other?

Correct. Makes no difference. Just insulate them from each other. Make sure you cut back to clean, uncorroded wire before you solder.

Fit heatshrink on the wires before you solder them but remember this may not fix your problem, good chance that melted plug has taken out your stator and rec/reg, you need to do the drill to find out what still is working. This can get ugly before it gets better

Norm is correct in that the stator might have been killed IF any two yellow wires touched together from the melting. Read up on how to test it. There are ohmage tests and AC output tests. Any VFR owner needs to know the tests, sadly.

WHAT ?? You don't have a mulitmeter?? Can't own a Honda motorcycle without it, that and a battery charger too. :worked_till_5am:

So, I Soldered some new wires, Ran the bike for 20 mins and my voltage stayed 12/14v so i believe i am saved from a disaster. Also my temp gauge was unplugged from when i swapped out the thermostat...stupid me. Any recommendations on getting air out of the cooling system? So far i just run it til the fans turn on, then let it cool down and add to the overflow tank.
