I want to see notification of thread updates in the web page and stop receiving e-mails. I have already done the following but I am still receiving e-mails:

    In my control panel

    SETTINGS

    GENERAL SETTINGS

    DEFAULT THREAD SUBSCRIPTION MODE

    THROUGH MY CONTROL PANEL ONLY

I think you were on the right path. Settings > My Settings > General Settings > Messaging and Notifications > then on right, scroll down to Default Thread Subscription Mode and turn it off.

Then what does "Through my control panel" setting mean? That appears like it should shutoff e-mail but still give me a heads up in the web panel.

I found that changing my e-mail address was the easiest.

After I turned off all email notifications I still received them for about a week. They became fewer and further in between but it seemed like the system took some time to "catch up" to my settings.

You can also"Unsubscribe" to any threads you no longer wish to see. You automatically receive notifications if you had posted to a thread. Shutting down the notifications all together may not be the best idea, of course, depending on your wants. It is easy enough to unsubscribe to a thread. When you get a notification, just scroll farther down the notification message and hit the Unsubscribe link to either this thread, or all threads.

Don't be daft. It's winter over there now and defenestration will result in significantly higher heating bills, a colder house, and a grumpy wife.

We are in total agreement with the first and second premises but until we hear directly from Knight's SO, that remains questionable.
