    hello fellow viffers!
I was just wondering if anyone else has an issue with their kickstand? The one on my 84 750 seems too long to be of any real use! I mean sure, if I find a slope to park on all the time, then no big deal. But if I even park on level ground, the bike is too straight up for my comfort! I always end up using the center stand all the time and its a pain. I like having the center stand for maintenance and things, but to have to always put it up on the centerstand every time I park seems ridiculous! Is there any other kickstand that might fit my bike to get a little more park lean out of it? Can I somehow modify the one that I have to make it work better? ex. heating it up and bending it a little to give it more curve?
Thanks for any and all responses to my delima!
    PEACE

I owuld not modify the oem kickstand. you might try to get an aftermarket adjustable one, though.

Sounds like you've lowered the bike or your shock is ready for replacement. Have you put some air in the shock?

Sounds like your suspension is a little low. The kick stand on my '83 ceptor seems to work fine.

i havent messed with my suspension at all. i dont think my rear shock is bad. my bike only has 15,000 miles on it. will putting more air in it actually bring the level up or just make it more responsive? this is my first bike and i wouldnt be able to tell a good suspension from a bad one at this point! i like the way it feels though. firm but still comfortable. just thought a kickstand from a sabre or magna might fit but dont know about their park angles.

I have an '82 Sabre and an '83 Interceptor. I'm at work now, so I can't look, but I think they have very similar stands, mabye the same. Did the p.o. change your stand? Does it have the correct size tires? I don't think a little air in the forks will make the stand useless. Only susp. mods. have enough impact to change it that much. I'll measure both of mine this evening and post the results.

Airing up the rear will increase the height of the suspension - but make the ride a little harsher. Air it up according to the owner's manual and see how it feels.

After I lowered the air in mine, it sits a little straighter. I find if I pull up on the handlebars after I get off, it raises the bike a little. I probably need new rear and front suspension after 22 years and 48K miles...

ive got stock size tires. i will try to put some more air in the rear, but i hope it doesent make it ride to hard. i'm only 175lbs. and like the way it feels right now. thats why i havent even messed with it. actually when i got the bike, the dude was running 140/80-18 on the rear but since those are VERY hard to come by, i went back to the stock size of 130/80-18. i found a nice dunlop arrowmax tire that i like very much and gives me more confidence than the old bigger tire. maybe thats why it sits so straight up because of the smaller tire? going on a 200 mile ride tomorrow around lake mille lacs so i wont mess with it until after that! thanks for everyones input! this site is the best!

I'm 165 and I aired it up to exactly 1/2 the max suggested - can't remember what that is now - and it seems to be just about perfect.

Both '82 Sabre and '83 Ceptor measure about 11" and look very similar.
