    Hello fellas,

I'm in the process of modding my FZR 1000 to receive an SSSarm from a VFR. I've been told it's much easier to mount the 94-97 model year than the VFR800, however, the 800 arm would keep me relatively very close to my current geometry, and Porky definitely doesn't need to gain any weight or get a longer wheelbase. Can anyone tell me if there are any huge differences from either swingarm.

Weight differences would be great as well?
Is the drive chain on the same side?
Does the shock mount underneath and similarily?
How does one tighten the chain on an SSSarm?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, much obliged
BTW, if anyone has an entire setup swingarm and wheel for sale, for $500, please let me know.

The 800's 98-present bolt to engine cases while the 750 90-97 bolts to a frame like your 1000. That's why they are recommended over the 800's. The shocks mount the same.

The chain is tightened by an eccentric adjuster just behind the sprocket. You'll need a special tool (available at the dealer) to adjust it. Chains are all on the same side.

The 800's also use link brakes so you have to deal with the issue of two lines on the brake caliper. I don't know weights/lengths but I think the 98-01 800 is the shortest of the three.

Cant comment on a 4th gen vs 5th/6th, but I know the 6th is about an inch longer than a 5th.

What year fizzer you got? I had an '87 for almost 10 years. Loved that ole girl, sadly, I had to part with her to get the viffer, but it was a good swap. I'm happy.

I would be scoping out craigslist for parts from a viffer. Look even in different states/cities. LA had some guys parting out some VFR's awhile back. Or, there is always e-bay.

Drive chain is on the same side as your fizzer.

    SSS on GSXR

Well, if you want to try, I have a whole 3rd gen (90-93) SSS at home extra.

Gonna need pics when you're done. I raced an '89 for quite a while. 145rwhp, 360lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel. Many mods done to lighten it up. I ran the stock motor for the first 3 years and then went with the 1070 kit, big valves etc. That thing was a wheelie machine. Worse when I tried to run flatslides! Oh, and before I retired, it ran a nice big #3.

Thanks Larry but I've since acquired an entire bolt on solution with wheel from an 800, that's been made to fit on the 91 swingarm.

    Cheers.

Hey Derstuka, Love the Soul/Glo avatar, that's Hot!
Will do GenLightening. It will definitely be a while though as I've got a huge list of parts and mods to get through and a back to get back together, the FI being the real scarry one. How on earth did you ever realize 360llbs out of old porky anyways? I'm referring to my own bike when using "porky" of course and never anyone elses machine. I'm thinking the little bit of a longer swingarm should help in keeping the front end down.
