    Rebuilding a 2001 VFR800Fi1.

I purchased an insurance write-off, plastics only thankfully.

However after removing all the broken stuff I discovered this: (the screw was only in about 1mm)

The proper thing to do would be to replace the sump, obviously. But really didn't want to tackle the downpipes. 14 years of crustyness... no thanks.

So having access to a 3D printer and a bit of experience drawing stuff here's what I've come up with:

    First prototype:

Final version (accurate positioning compared to original lug location):

Someone locally has kindly offered to CNC an aluminium version using my 3D STL file.

Its PLA (polylactic acid). If the 3D printer I have access to was able to print in ABS then I would be happy with that, but needs an upgrade (heated bed) in order to use ABS. It's the works so I can't tamper with it...

If I were using a plastic then would feel happier if the 'plate' section was 3mm thick instead of 2mm. Feels quite flimsy in the hand.

Cool. Where did you get your experience "drawing stuff"? My son is studying CNC Machining and Programming at a local college in Washington State.

Self-taught through sheer determination. I'm a software engineer by trade so kinda have an engineering outlook on life.
