Rear Entry Helmet

Anyone ever heard of these?

I like it. I want one. Anyone down under what to help me get one?

It will take 300 years to get DOT approval in the states.

 

Clever design to say the least. I would hope that the latching mechanism is sturdy and gives you a positive indication that it's latched. It will probably take some getting used to, seeing that there is no chin strap to deal with. The emergency release feature seems like a nice feature too.

 

If these are going to be sold in HD Botiques, I hope they come with full instructions otherwise, the harleydoods will put them on backward.

 

I heard that SOW has a set of 'rear-entry leathers'.

 

Take my money!

How much is fact and how much is BS, not a clue.. Maybe one of the guys from down under will know for sure.

Two of the dudes on the above, were a little pissy aboot the helmet. One not having a built in sun visor and the other didn't comprehend the barcoded removal system. Probably harleydoods...

 

The idea is great, certainly help helmet removal by Paramedics, except in the dark where the latch system could prove a problem sorting

I'd like to see one twisted a few times after it's been used for a month, a hinge on top just doesn't sound right

On topic ... I have several friends and family members that are firemen or paramedics.

They like the idea of making it easier to get the helmet off without having to disturb the neck / spinal column nearly as much. On the other hand, the hinge creates a weak point - one of the reasons I buy full faced helmets over modular (despite my interest in modular designs).

No way to tell until it actually gets proper testing and we see some real life case studies.

I want one. I hate fumbling with straps and I hate pulling my glasses off when I pop my full face helmet on my head. I want one.

I think it is the lack of chin strap that I like as much or more than the modular design.

As far as the hinges are concerned, if I hit my head hard enough to cause the hinges or the fasteners to fail, then I am probably in some serious trouble anyway.

It's a Laser Monaco.

 

Hinges in general are weak points. If protracted any device joining two or more solid or homogenous objects creates a weak point. This particular hinge may well be something as new as the concept of a rear entry helmet, barcoding and now as we see certification by a testing body.

Kinda gotta figger that the Fire dudes, EMT and paramedic dudes might, since they have cell phones, have flashlights too. Those damn barcodes are everywhere..


I sent most of this info to a guy in my club. He's an orthopedic surgeon and rides a VFR. Interesting guy.. Did a ground up design and built a replica Triumph Slippery Sam including designing the frame. Did an overhaul on his wife's Volvo..

 

So having your helmet open up when you're "in some serious trouble anyway" doesn't bother you?

Until that things been adequately tested, they shouldn't be allowed to sell them, the first death will see them bankrupted by the resulting court case

What we NEED is a helmet with a built in neck brace that light, compact and functional
