The lanes are so wide here. And I10 has made a 2-3 foot wide margin between the hov and the fast lane. Absolutely perfect for splitting under heavy traffic. Even turn lanes on surface streets have a very wide turn lane that would allow for 2 bikes wide to turn first. I'm checking in with a Constable friend to see what the ticket would be

Or you can drone along like all the the big cruisers (Harleys) that dont have the skill or afraid to split when theres room and just suck exhaust fumes and wait for some young little thing texting to make him a sandwich. ..God forbid. .
See these guys just trolling along all the time doin this....AND sometimes after I pass in the diamond lane they speed up and have to off course pass me..over the double yellow
But thats a whole notha thread

Constable says, "If traffic is stopped and you lane split safely, the moto cops are VERY unlikely to give you a ticket. Also, the same if for surface streets."

Well, it seems that my buddy was wrong as soon as a traffic police was asked. Probably a $350 ticket. She has retracted her original statement.

I'm going with Randy and Marrib's earlier comments: Trying to get the general public accustomed to lane splitting/filtering/lane sharing or whatever you want to call it would be a monumental task.

I've lived in Jersey almost my entire life. I've traveled around, and have driven in numerous states and big cities from Boston to Florida to Chicago to LA. In my opinion, no one has drivers anywhere near as aggressive as Jersey. I'm sure some of you will disagree, and you may be right. But you better have your A game on anytime you are driving OR riding in Jersey.

I ain't the best rider out there, but I'm confident in my abilities. It would take something serious (like 10 miles of non-moving traffic) for me to lane split, and that's simply based on knowing that cagers would absolutely go our to their way to try and fuck me up.

^grew up in your local, Essex County. I am thankful for all the riding I did up there, was averaging about 10,000 miles or more a year. I went from being the "guppy" in the fish bowl to the "SharK." I got tickets there, ran there, etc. I think South FL is a more volatile place to learn how to ride a bike on the street. As far as splitting lanes goes, I had the same philosophy 30 years ago in NJ as I do now. I don't wana wait more than one traffic light cycle at an intercection, I don't wana do the stop and go shuffle on the highway. I look out for the constabulatory and do what I have to do to keep myself safe and my bike cool (air circulating arouond my engine.)

I was in Italy this August and I thought I saw the worst drivers until then. You have to see the Italians ride their scooters/motorcycles to believe it. Words can not describe the debauchery I wittnessed, same token; who am I to say how they shoud ride, when I am a guest in their county :loco: :vtr2:

Anyplace making whatever it's going to be called allowing bikes to occupy the same lane as other vehicles in a legal manner is going to be introduced and have the change PR'd like crazy.

The "studies" on who bit who should be confined to the State of California where this practice has been in effect for years.

Individual instances in places where this "practice" is not allowed by statute or law depends on the LEO and of course his vehicle. Ain't no way a smokie in a car is going to bust a dude on a bike who is shitting and getting through drive time traffic on a freeway. Them lanes is wide in some places but not that wide.

My overall suggestion is to construct a lane exclusively for harleydoods in places where wearing a helmet interferes with their lifestyle..

The first order of business IMO,would be to make sure that if any politicians were to be involved that they came with instruction sheets on how to remove their hands from our pockets.

    "Congress" is bicameral.
