Yah, used to see on the freeways here in LALA land on the digital signs that say click it or ticket it, used to say share the roads with motorcycles...not anymore....

The biggest risk to "filtering" is the irrational anger of motorists toward bikes. The very idea that someone can move through traffic faster than them and "get in front of the line" infuriates them. My own personal problem with lane splitting is related to my problem with the HOV lane. You tend to be moving much faster than surrounding traffic. When someone in a car does something stupid (and they will) bad things happen really fast.

I have thought about similar moves Duc. What stopped me in my tracks is that the same stupid fucker who cuts you off, or refuses to let you in, or encroaches on your space, is that same mutha who will slam on the brakes or suddenly move and draw some totally innocent driver and other passengers, pedestrians or bikers, into the potentially deadly fold.

Lane splitting has gone on here forever but it has just been legalized but they avoided calling it lane splitting and they called it "filtering" and they did refer to filtering your way through the traffic to get up to the front at the lights. I don't think they actually stated you could ride through slow moving traffic because there might have been liability issues they wanted to avoid but I doubt you would get pulled over if you were doing it unless you were doing the crazy stuff you see some riders do, weaving through the traffic at 100kph

The only good thing is because I come from a town with tons of LAPD and CHP motor cops, I just tuck in behind them, of course with alot of room between us, they usually are always hauling the mail....
Always get the two finger wave down low from most of them.....

School gets out in 5 minutes. One of the elementary school parent/crossing guards nearby had gorgeous legs luscious lips and big tits.

In the sunshine state of QLD they quite clearly state that the practice of filtering is legal only up to traffic speeds of 30 Km/h or between stationary traffic at lights

They even send out a pamphlet in the vehicle registration reminder notice to explain it to all vehicle owners
It may seem very slow but if you have ever driven in the parking lot called Brisbane rush hour (0530 until 0930 and 15.30 until 19.00 roughly) it is much better now being able to look out for errant drivers and spend less time looking for the Police

You can easily cut out 4-5 traffic light cycles by getting to the front in peak times and frequently the motorways are moving slower than 30 Km/h

just remember "You are invisible and they are trying to kill you "

sadly, I think the opposition to lane sharing in the US is mainly due to narcissism being covered with a thin veil of "safety" as an excuse. People view it as cheating, like you're cutting in line somehow. If they have to be stuck in miserable traffic, so do you. or just plain laziness, "wait, you mean I'd actually have to pay attention while driving? fuck that!"

the same folks who insist motorcycles occupy a full car sized chunk of road real estate are the first to get bent out of shape when they find a motorcycle occupying a full parking space. Whatever benefits them at the moment, that's why I say narcissism.

We call it filtering here too and it's legal (except in a few well defined places like the approach to traffic lights) although you do it in the knowledge that it's regarded as a potentially hazardous move and if anything goes wrong it'll probably be your fault. I do it all the time!

This I will have to agree with! It's similar to why people will make a left turn in front of you and yet there is nobody behind you. I have witnessed this time and time again, regardless of if I'm in the car or on the bike. For some reason they have to go first, rather than wait a few seconds for you to pass them and for them to turn safely!

This behavior is also hard to explain. Last Sunday we were driving in the center lane on the freeway, when a large SUV starts speeding up on our left and then proceeds to jump over to the right lane right in front of us, causing our driver to have to touch his brakes. I turned around to see what traffic was like behind us, thinking it was crowded hence why he sped up but the closest car to us was about 100 yards away, in any of the three lanes! Rather than just slow down and cross over safely behind us, they literally sped up so they could cross right in front of us. Go figure?!

In this instance the SUV may have been moving to the right to be in the proper lane for the next exit. GPS units get better all the time. At 60-70 mph on freeways they predict exit ramps well in advance of the actual ramp. I gotta agree though probably a clueless asshole talking on a cell or getting head from his SO...
