Been riding close to 55 years, 65 years old now, even raced motocross for close to 20 years. Last bike was a 1999 VTR1000 Superhawk. Nice bike, gobs of torque, but all I ever wanted to do was see how far a could wheelie the damn thing! Not smart, hahaha!

Bought my 1998 VFR800 in Santa Clarita, just a bit over a hundred miles away, so that was my first ride on a VFR800....WOW, what a smooth effortless bike to ride! Felt amazingly smooth and comfortable, plenty of power, definitely happy with my purchase!

A very good riding buddy of mine is the one who originally told me about the Superhawk, which I had for about 5 years till I sold it a couple years ago to buy, of all things, a 1965 Yamaha 250 Big Bear Scrambler! But that deal fell through, and I've been without a bike that long. Hard to go too long without 2 wheels, and recently that friend of mine was telling all about Honda interceptors. Sure glad he did! I did a lot of research and read a lot of articles, and this sure sounded like an awesome ride I just had to try! Again, glad I did, look forward to reading your posts. Looking forward to my first real ride since I bought it. Luckily live in California, but it still has pretty cold days, lol!

Welcome to The World Terry! Being in Bakersfield I'm sure you're familiar with Highway 58! A few of us So Cal riders went through your way on a ride up to the Central Coast and took 58 West, definitely a good time on the VFR. Although we're not getting much of the rain yet, the temps have been dropping a few degrees, but nothing like our brothers in the North or East get.

Noob here, and on my iPad hone, so not sure how to load multiple images in a single message. But she's a stock and standard baby with 26,700 miles, and obviously well taken care of. I feel fortunate to have found a nice 5th gen model, which after doing a bunch of research and reading lots of articles, was the one I wanted.

Don't know how much or if at all it matters, but serial number is 847, tag shows a build date of 11/97. Is this good, bad, or no prob either way?

Route 166 is a nice fast road but you have to be careful as the CHP likes to use it as well. Highway 33, which t-bones into 166 is another great road you might want to explore.

Nice, you have a good one, Also nice is the rim mod, that adds a nice touch. Bakersfield, you are very close to motorcycling heaven. Big bear country, it's on my to do list one of these days. Interesting, had to go look at my build date, awe it is 11/97 as well, but it's #282

RVFR, long ago I did a Kings Canyon ride from Torrance, CA. 3 of us packed little one man pup tents, stopped for lunch somewhere along the way, dinner in Kings Canyon, spent the night in a Forrest camping area, next morning a little hike, then a blast up Kings Canyon run, which I think parallels a river used for rafting(it's been a while, like around 1980-1981), then iron butted it home! Did that 2 years in a row, great ride. One year on a Yamaha 750 Seca, and the next year on a Yamaha SR 500! Yep, Yamaha's awesome street thumper! I had put a pipe on it, and my Harley friend refused to ride on the muffler side....yeah, it was crazy loud!!! Along the way, gotta keep the mouth closed while driving by a lake or two, not cool to swallow a June bug at 70-80!!

My buddy is very familiar with both 166 and 33, and unfortunately for him, on almost a first name basis with a CHP officer or 2, and even one particular ranger that loves to give him a hard time!!

Thanks all for your comments, I'm gonna love this bike, and hopefully riding with a couple of ya at some point !

Keep the rubber side down guys!!!
